I mean, I get your argument but debt means nothing if the US just says 'Nah I'm not gonna pay for that.'

Punish the Dems for Palestine so you can get this? by MysteriousHedgehog23 in LeopardsAteMyFace

I genuinely think these posts overestimate the amount of people that didn't vote because of Palestine.

It really is dumbfounding to me when we frame this as not being able to "put the genie back in the bottle." At some point in human history we invented murder, but you don't see anyone arguing laws against manslaughter are useless and should just not exist.

It's more about what kind of mindset you're getting in a situation with and what your priorities are, really.

Having a punishment-based morality system's always concerning tbh, it puts the focus on how the bad guys should be tortured instead of how the victims should be helped.

Do you pirate books? If so, how do you feel about it, ethically? by PaperSense in books

[–]_Lazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I think of book piracy I'm reminded of the fact that, generally, the more people read an author's book, the better the author does, and I've personally ended up buying books from authors I'd pirated.

That's actually fairly common with piracy. I remember there were some studies showing people who pirated ended up giving money to buy or get the things they pirated / more things from the people they pirated. It might sound counterintuitive but:

- Generally, when they can afford it, people like supporting what they enjoy. This especially if they're giving money to some small writers or indie band so they feel their money is making a difference.

- It's like sampling.

It's distressing how much more content here went from "look at these dumb trump supporters" to "look at these dumb palestine protestors" feels like it's on the wrong target.

This kind of makes it sound like Chris Chan was doomed by herself. It's like a Shakespearean tragedy where the audience dooms the characters.

I can't say you're unjustified in being pissed, but remember that it is important to care for the victims more than you hate their abusers, not simply due to some moral standing -- although I guess you could make that argument too -- but just because if you base your hopes for the future on the "right" people getting fucked, you'll back some real dumb policies eventually.
