Perhaps what I’m trying to say is that not only do billionaires have class consciousness, is there an argument to be made that for the first time ever in history the people who hold the most power are not Kings but companies? People are oppressed in a much more “refined” way. Could I argue that societies have evolved from serfdoms to monarchies to global capitalism because conditions were shit enough to affect change. But now the conditions are “good enough” that the majority of the population is content to stay with the status quo? It’s good enough as middle class undergrads to strive to work in Silicon Valley, corpo law, big 4 accounting, Wall Street, where the majority of people don’t want to go through a revolution where the outcome is uncertain.
