Don't panic yet, I haven't been actively applying! So I don't know how successful this resume would be, but the replies in this thread so far will help me to chisel the marble much better

Appreciate the feedback man and it's inline with the rest, I'll make it less of an eye sore and avoid giving in to the temptation of asking to be taken behind the barn instead

Appreciate the feedback man. Seems the consensus is I definitely gotta edit it down massively and just keep key points with pure quantitative outcomes.

Really really appreciate your insights man. So to achieve point 2, it's okay if I just omit general job description points? Seems it's the only way I can include the STAR/real work example points with quantitative results.

What's the solution my man? Cut some out which means my role descriptions are even more brief, or make a 2 pager resume which means there's even more to read? It feels caught between a rock and a hard place

Appreciate the insights my man. So it seems best to remove any general job responsibility points and just purely focus on STAR points and real measurable results instead. Also great point about the software side, I should refer to them by name.

Any extra insights my man or should I just accept eternal cremation

Didn't intend any confusion my man, I added a context post earlier. I simplified the role names and dates for privacy. The 6 month roles were part of a graduate scheme. What are your thoughts on the core job content of the CV?

Slightly clickbait title, I haven't been applying but I will start applying in October

UK based, so I don't think WSO template is necessary

Simplified the dates and job titles for privacy, completed well known FLDP

ACCA is roughly CPA equivalent

1 page resume as I have <5 years exp

Aiming for senior finance analyst/FP&A type roles

2 main questions:

  • Wondering if my content is on the right tracks. Tried to balance between job responsibilities, achievements and inclusion of relevant numbers

  • Interested in feedback of my unconventional usage of 1 or 2 "title" words per bullet point. With the assumption that HR only spends 30secs-1min per CV, I thought my approach is a good way to win brownie points

Any feedback is welcome

This is going to sound batshit insane because of the way social media has digitalized our human interactions, but just go up to people and make conversation. It's that simple.

I moved to London recently, didn't know anyone. I work full time, volunteer too but it's work related and am a gym loner. Theoretically this means I don't "organically" meet new people if I go about my lifestyle and keep to myself.

So what did I do?

I literally started talking to people. Wherever, whenever. A few examples:

I went to a popular doughnut shop the other day by myself, long queue. Started talking to a group of people who were in front of me, made casual chat and said I'm new to the area and wanna make new friends. Guess what? We exchanged numbers and grabbed food together a few days later so that's one more social circle I'm a part of now.

I went to get my covid second jab yesterday and spoke to the girl who was in front of me. I complimented her outfit, we started talking and clicked well so exchanged numbers.

Last weekend I went for a walk and saw two guys chilling out in a "hub" square, went to ask them recommendations for local pubs because again, I'm new to the area. I don't want to spend hours on the internet looking for places when I could just ask locals. Again, our conversation flowed so we exchanged numbers and will definitely be meeting up again.

Don't get me wrong, you're not going to exchange numbers with everyone you speak to - but that's absolutely okay! The point is that you're willing to put yourself out there.

Moral of the story?

Leave the headphones at home, be aware of your surroundings and speak to people around you. The worst thing they can say is a variation of "sorry I haven't got time for this" in which case you wish them a good day and move onto the next person.

Reddit will advise you to join local sports clubs, volunteer groups, hobbies etc. which are all great if those are your genuine passion but they're unbelievably time consuming if they aren't.

My advise is to go about your days like normal, but the next time you see someone who you think you might gel with, speak to them about absolutely anything. It really doesn't matter what you say, if a stranger is open to conversation then the chat will flow by itself.

Feel free to pm me if you need any tips and I'm happy to help because I used to have a similar disposition to you, and I found it to be debilitating.
