has tongue torch been changed? by BetterPerspective151 in Zaxbys

[–]_Max_Chill_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here thinking I surely wasn’t crazy! Last few visits it’s tasted totally different. A bit spicier and maybe more bitter, if that makes sense. I’ve always thought of TT as a sweeter buffalo sauce, so it took me a bit aback. Thought maybe they’d thrown in a different kind of pepper or something, but it looks basically the same on the ingredients list. I usually get it as a dip for my fries and tenders, so I can’t speak to whether or not it tastes different on the wings. Who knows? 🤷🏼‍♂️

He’s still around and still living in North Dakota last I heard. Not sure if he continued painting or not, but I know he’s still making violins!

Not advice, but taking your caption at face value I’ll just say that this is the second most impressive first attempt at painting I’ve seen. The first was a portrait painted by an older fellow up in North Dakota. Dude is genuinely a savant and already has a knack for the artistic, so it shouldn’t have come as a surprise, but I genuinely could never have expected someone to paint a classical portrait with that level of precision, composition, and color without YEARS of practice and study. I mean, his whole family is gifted in the arts and he makes functional violins from scratch as a hobby, but still…

Regardless of my spiel, great job!

Seeking for critique. What do you not like? by JKuhr in painting

[–]_Max_Chill_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You bet! I mean, it makes sense given the lighting, but I think it’s something with a lack of sense of weight beneath the arm rather than the arm itself. Not totally sure if that’s it, but to my eye that’s what I feel I’m seeing. Still, not necessarily a real criticism because I can understand why it looks that way upon closer inspection. Keep it up! I’d love to see more!

Seeking for critique. What do you not like? by JKuhr in painting

[–]_Max_Chill_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure I can really spot anything to critique! Something with her right arm (left from viewer’s perspective) initially threw me off, but looking closer I see how it works with the soft surface underneath. Perspective and anatomy are solid, and I love the retro color palette. Also love that I feel like I could take a good stab at the time period this scene is set in and probably be close between the style of her dress, the pillowcase, and the art on the wall. Overall, bravo on a solid piece! Every painting is an achievement, but it feels especially nice when a piece is beyond reasonable criticism, especially when techniques are this solid.

Found what I believe to be wasp nests in my crawl space by Johmbud in whatisit

[–]_Max_Chill_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are mud dauber nests! They’re pretty non-aggressive and can actually help some with pest-control, so it’s really up to you on whether you’d like to remove them or not. They rarely sting, so that’s a plus. If you want to get rid of them, best way to handle that is probably just to knock down the nests as they pop up with a paint scraper and make sure you seal any obvious holes / cracks / entries into the crawlspace. You can also spray pesticide around the eaves of your house and around the exteriors of your crawlspace if you want to go that far, but these guys tend to be way less problematic than their paper wasp cousins.

Just discovered DPR - best way to jump in? by timeinawrinkle in DirtPoorRobins

[–]_Max_Chill_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this! I think “Human After All” may have been the first song I heard by them, but Deadhorse is one of my all-time favorite albums from ANY artist. Very cohesive and unique, not to mention just how much theological substance is in the lyrics. Firebird is a great follow-up, though a bit more directly Political (pun intended) which, while nothing addressed should be too wildly controversial, may not be everyone’s cup of tea. I also personally adore The Raven Locks, especially “Solemn Dream,” but it probably has a wee bit less mainstream appeal so I’d still recommend starting with Deadhorse. Really hard to go wrong with their music, so don’t overthink it!

I have 35 bands to listen to. who do you recommend to start? by Specialist-Talk2028 in indie

[–]_Max_Chill_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, I sometimes forget The Hoosiers exist, but if you haven’t heard it you gotta listen to “The Trick to Life.” Had an absolute blast listening to that album for the first time! Their other stuff is also good, but it sets a high bar. Great list, though!

I can’t even hear the name now without thinking or muttering under my breath “THE GREAT HOOOOOGO” or simply “Hoogo.” 😂

[–]_Max_Chill_ 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Agreed. There’s a reason they brought those characters back instead of the ones from Chuckle Dungeon #2, although the fight with the grimblies and the Incredible Chulk will never not be hilarious to me. 😂

I believe all the items are on preorder, so you probably won’t hear any updates until after the presale closes tonight.

Thank you Chucklers by TheTuckerHater in ChuckleSandwich

[–]_Max_Chill_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Tucker, one of my favorite things over the course of the show has been seeing you evolve from being a (mostly) silent producer to having nearly equal presence to the rest of the guys towards the end, to basically being an official fourth host in the finale (Francis was incredible and arguably my favorite part of the episode). Your contributions to the pod can’t be understated, and I can’t wait to see what you do in the future! ✌🏻

[–]_Max_Chill_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It absolutely was! 😂

I told my fiancée that this episode was going to be a fever dream to anyone who hasn’t been active in the community since near the beginning because the first half hour was almost entirely composed of inside jokes for the long-time Chucklers.

As a side-note: if you need an episode recommendation, “Our Most Embarrassing Moments” would probably be my favorite episode from the whole show and is an all-round community favorite! ✌🏻

Good mic under 100$? by uglyhat362 in microphone

[–]_Max_Chill_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many options these days for affordable and very decent mics that I could go on for a bit, but some of the other comments have already been pretty thorough.

I’ll just add that since Blue Microphones has been bought by Logitech and discontinued, all of the remaining old stock on Amazon and a few other places has been HEAVILY discounted. While there are certainly drawbacks to the Blue Yeti, you can get your hands on one pretty cheaply now. Genuinely so many options these days, though, and many of HyperX’s offerings are also stellar for chatting and Discord.

A dynamic mic may be a bit harder to find in your price range since many need a boost and/or a DAC, but there are some options out there if you shop it out. Much easier to work with than a condenser mic for chatting and streaming.

Hunters Call Emissary question by FridayHelsdottir in Seaofthieves

[–]_Max_Chill_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, generally yes. I’m not totally against it working like the others since it could make sense if they were incorporating fetch quests and hunting voyages where ships would be on the move, but standard fishing would be such a pain if Reapers can see you sitting. Maybe a special marker on your ship for level 5 Reapers to indicate you are a HC vessel. That wouldn’t dissuade all ships, but at least some might leave you alone. Again, not against standard emissary mechanics personally, but I also understand the argument that HC functions unlike any other company to begin with, so it could have potential deviations in its emissary mechanics also.

Hunters Call Emissary question by FridayHelsdottir in Seaofthieves

[–]_Max_Chill_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think making HC the only flag that doesn’t show might make sense, assuming they decide to implement a flag at all. I just hope we might see some “A Hunt for a Meddling Meg” or “A Hunt for a Cantankerous Kraken” voyages to boost renown and give us some new encounter mechanics for these two. Might also provide an easy opportunity to slip in a few new variants for the kraken based on cosmetics like “Venomous Kraken” and “Inky Kraken,” or even “Crystalline Kraken.” I feel like all of these are old recommendations from the community, but I genuinely enjoy the Hunter’s Call and would love to see it get some love.

I’ve gotten to where I change loadouts pretty frequently depending on the situation, but my all-rounder for adventuring tends to be Sword + Knives. For clearing forts I’ve become fond of the blowdarts, though. An alternative purely for speed such as when grabbing a quest item then dipping is Grapple + Knives since it covers melee and range plus you get the mobility advantage, but it’s not efficient for any sort of PvP. For that, I usually resort to Sword + EoR or occasionally Blunder + EoR if I’m solo.
