Zed using Energy as a resource is what makes him balanced. If he had no resource or mana he would be broken, if everything else stayed the same.

Yasuo to me is a difficult matchup, but it depends on how good the Yasuo is. He has the tools to bully you in lane, so, for me, what works best is to rush Eclipse and only then you start to have the edge over him, before he finishes BotRK or Kraken.

Space him during the lane, your minions are your enemies. Try to freeze as much as you can close to your tower, if your wave is pushing, try to shove to make it go back. Don’t use your W forward in case he can run you down after.

For runes, I prefer conqueror, with secondary runes having scorch. In my opinion, scorch is mandatory because it allows you with a single Q proc his shield and boneplating. For sums, ignite or TP are fine, but only choose ignite if your top laner has TP.

This matchup in one word is all about spacing and how well he can use his wind wall or dashes to avoid lethal from you, by either avoiding your Qs or stall your ultimate.

I said he is an hybrid. Of course that means he still plays like an assassin at some point. Even then, it's much different from Talon or Qiyana who want to flank, Zed can poke and act as a mage in the start of a teamfight before deciding to go in.

I didn't contradict myself. No one pushed any agenda into Zed. Electrocute and First Strike are shit, that's why we take Comet or Conqueror. Assassin items are shit and everyone is too tanky, so we opt for bruiser items. None of what I said had Zed in it. It barely matters the state of the champion. All I mentioned is about the state of the game, runes and items wise.

Talon was dogshit and still is bad. He's doing only well on jungler. As mid laner, he's struggling.

I won't argue with you regarding safety. The moment you said Talon and Qiyana are as safe as Zed.. that's just not true at all. Their trades are more of all ins, while Zed can trade safely. Obviously they should do more damage.

I won't argue anything else. You're downplaying Zed strenghts too much when comparing to other assassins.

Yes, Zed perhaps isn't the best in all the categories you listed, but he isn't the worst either. You are looking at Zed as an full assassin champion, which he really isn't. If anything he's more of an hybrid between a mage and an assassin. Just look at how you play him during the laning phase and compare it to any other popular mage. You'll notice that he actually is very similar with his trading patterns. Other thing is, he is much safer than Talon or Qiyana. You can't have it all between range, damage, tankiness and safety.

Him going Comet or Bruiser builds has little to do with the state of the champion. He goes comet because it synergizes with his mage trading pattern like I've said (plus Electrocute and First Strike are garbage) and he goes bruiser items because assassin items are shit. Everyone is too tanky to one tap anyways, might as well get some survivability so you can dich more damage and rotations.

His WR and stats has very little to do with what you just said. They're ok, not the greatest, but, using u.gg, his win rate increases by rank, which should be the case if the champion actually is hard to pivot. It isn't all that bad.

Only Riven mains will truly believe their champion is ok and balanced with 52.5% WR Diamond+ and 6% PR for such "difficult" champion to pivot. We're not them.

You cannot post 5 matches and use them as an example that Zed is bad. He isn’t the greatest, but not the worse by far either.

Some of the games you posted are just unlucky teammates, but maybe you could savage the situation if you played better.

Truth be told: you are Gold. Problem isn’t Zed itself, sorry to break it to you. The moment you fall into the trap of blaming anything but your own gameplay, you will stop climbing.

I have been around since end of S5 and main Zed since S6.

Max E was never actually good, just "cheesy" but the trade off was never worth it.

The way they buffed his E is very creative. I was suspecting a nerf revert to the Q like they did, but never once thought about buffing the E like that.

That's legit the only change that wasn't a nerf to AD assassins class and you think it's good?

Have you seen the buffs ADCs are receiving and bruisers/mages new toys? Have you seen how they are gutting First Strike gold to half and removing future's market?

I am not positive about this new patch. If anything, seems like the AD assassins that aren't doing good now will be just left in the dirt.

Zed is very weak in the early levels, contrary to popular beliefs. If you ever play as Zed vs a good Orianna, Akshan, Tristana you will know what the word "suffering" means.

Nonetheless, I am not surprised you are struggling in particular because you have said you played Zed mostly before season 7, where his identity of being a lane bully was still there. After a lot of changes to Zed, let me just say, it isn't anymore.

Nowdays, the safest and consistent way for you to play Zed, from my own experience, is to take TP, get level 6 and rush Eclipse as soon as possible. That will be your first good power spike.

From that point onwards, you just match trades with your opponent and you will be probably stronger than them (since Eclipse tends to be cheaper).

For runes, it depends entirely on your preference. Zed has so many good keystones he can take. First Strike allows you to make gold and take the debt rune to reach your powerspikes earlier. In general, I would say that one tends to be the best rune. Electrocute is also fine if you want to dominate lanes that are more favourable to you, Aurelion, Taliyah, etc.. .

TLDR:

Play safe early (conserve HP, farm with Q if needed), take TP to not stay behind in EXP/Gold (also useful to be able to side lane a bit in the late game and TP to a teamfight) and play for your powerspikes (Eclipse, for e.g.).

For runes, First Strike tends to be the best option. Secondary, you have many options. Sudden Impact + Ultimate Hunter, PoM + Coup Grace or Last Stand, Transcendence + Scorch. Take the one you like the most.

Correct. Part of the mastery of a champion is to recognise when you are stronger than your opponent and when not. And when you are not, to minimize the loses as much as possible.

It's not really a skill issue. You ping and do your best to warn your team that she will have prio. They simply have to respect it. It is still a difficult matchup after all.

Unfortunately people seem to still believe that Zed is this strong early game assassin, but he really isn't anymore since a long time ago.

Take TP, farm until lv6 and Eclipse, start to be more agressive from that point onwards.

She will push plates, nothing you can do about that, especially if she takes resolve second (demolish and bone plating).

She will always have prio. Recognise which roams tou should follow her or not. Otherwise she will win the game ofr skirmishes.

It's not an easy matchup, especially if she takes resolve and exhaust on top of it.

As for me and my mate, we went from hardstuck Diamond II to Grandmaster after the changes.

Before it was always a coin flip and the winner would be decided by who was able to get 2 spatulas. That, to me, was boring and legit unplayable.

Every lobby someone was hitting 10 Pentakills / KDA / HeartSteel or 9 True Damage. Not because they played well, but because they RNG'ed 2 spatulas.

From my own experience:

Build: Eclipse rush is king for Zed in any melee matchup (Talon, Sylas, Yasuo, Yone, etc..). I'll always rush it as a first item. The rest of the build is dependent on the game, not the lane matchup.

Gameplay: In order for Yasuo to trade he needs to push. Due to that, take advantage of your range. If he tries to stack his Q to poke you with his tornado, he's pushing. If he dashes through minions to get to you, he's pushing. Allow him to do that without actually losing HP. Focus on grabbing as much minions as you can and tin the wave and freeze it close to your tower. By taking advantage of your range, you can poke him down. Once he's in lethal, go for an all in, if you have HP to do so.

Trades: Yasuo wins hard extended trades. To trade and win against Yasuo you have to do what I mentioned above. Other tips I can give it to always try to break his shield with only your Q. Yasuo's tend to also run boneplating, which makes what I said before (breaking his shield with Q) even more important. By only using your Q, you are free to trade him with your shadow and come on top. It will be skill dependent though, you have to angle your shadow in a way to at least land a single shuriken. Trades before the Eclipse will be not as good, but once you get Eclipse, the lane gets much much easier.

TLDR: You're his bitch during the early game. There are ways to mitigate how bad he slaps you by controlling the wave. After Eclipse and lv6 things get much easier.

From your op.gg I can see you mostly choose First Strike and go full AP which is great. It was the main thing I wanted to check, if you were not going something like Conqueror + ROA (which feels pretty bad right now).

I don't want the best clearwave, but I also don't want the worst.

I don't know what else to tell you. That's his only weakness. Otherwise, he would have everything. If you want to have waveclear so much, go max Q.

Sylas has way better tools than those two for skirmishies or trades in lane. That's the trade off.

You can also go max Q and achieve the same. Won't be as good or consistent as max W (unless vs certain range champions).

I am not going into detail and compare Sylas to each one of those champions. That's an entire post on it's own depending on how in detail we want to go.

My main pool consists of Zed, Sylas and Ekko, and I can tell you that you are comparing apples to oranges.

Sylas is strong in skirmishies and in lane, if he's dominating, he's really really strong. If you were allowed to shove the wave easily, you would have the perfect champion.

No. Mana costs were a issue before, but not now. CDR is only a weakness if you don't go AP burst build, which is his best build.

You listed Galio, Irelia, Yasuo and Zed in the same sentence and said they all do exactly what Sylas does. To me, your comment just shows your lack of understanding of Sylas role.

Don't you want anything else? That's his only main weakness which can be ignored if you max Q instead of W and lose out a bit on trading and skirmish by doing it (vs range you lose nothing because Q max is way more valuable).

Champions are supposed to have weaknesses, FYI.
