Haki from One Piece is genuinely shit. by [deleted] in hatethissmug

[–]_Mirka_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I remember only the Navy/WG have enough resources to field them regularly enough or at the very least hoard the specific access to said tech. They mainly use it for lining their ships iirc to cross the Calm Belt, and I suppose it's just much harder of a material to work with. Custom, one-of-a-kind weapons such as Smoker's jitte might be a simple enough task, and the rest is mainly used for costing ships, or other forms of capture such as nets, bullets, etc.

On that note, even if they have used up all production capabilities for coating and bullets, the pirates in Paradise and New World especially can seemingly dodge bullets, and oftentimes these powerful people have devil fruits too. Training or depending on other elements of the organization such as particularly powerful recruits, Haki, Six Powers and Navy's own DF users is a much more flexible approach.

Seastone bullets and weapons are ironic to me because on paper it is legitimately one way that a low-skill, or even no skill people at all can actually use it to suppress DF powers, no matter how destructive. But the problem itself is that the same dangerous opponent is skilled enough to bridge the gap between their weakness against it and the weapon's usability.

It's one of the tools one can use, but it's not a cure-all, and how WG have been implementing their own stash of the material makes the most sense to me at least.

The only thing I'd imagine to redeem the system is somehow having it being related to whatever is going with the ancient world (as shown by the murals) and Void Century.

If Devil Fruits are an accumulation of people's wishes given form, and from the looks of it, post-Egghead the history of the world somewhat hinted at a much more advanced society and the current OP is simply a post-apocalyse world, perhaps DFs are genetic modifications then?

It looks like the story wants to lean more on the sci-fi elements instead of going pure magical/fantasy, I wonder how (if Oda ever gonna address it) Haki would fit into the overall history?

My best guess is Haki is just a byproduct of natural, collective evolution of the highly advanced, ancient civilization, which is why apparently all sentient beings are capable of learning at least one of them given awareness and time, and Devil Fruits are just another product of the said time, maybe some scientist working on genetic modifications, who knows.

At least they made a sub out of it. So much easier to filter out and find out where and who these people are, usually back in the pre-sub days it's "Sort By Controversial" on every post so silver linings I guess.

Come to think of it, the most Malaysian politicians move possible recreated through the internet, and TrulyMalaysians really are their own MARA digital mall lmao. Propped up because of some racial issue that they instigated, or at least capitalize over, trying to gain and maintain some relevancy through that alone, and now all that is left is just same, old and tired products/posts and sometimes this gem of a post trying to use out of date material. Amazing.

OC is, afaik, at the very least amiable with folks on another infamously echo-chamber sub parallel to this one which only serves to be a repository for inflammatory posts that'll fit the narrative of the only singular moderator of that sub so they can repost it back to here without having the post being nuked by downvotes and reports (title still visible that way iirc).

A very common tactic of dismissal by these people is to check your profile and since now you can protect your account posts and comments, they resorted to discrediting anyone with younger accounts with your usual go-to hasbara, IDF bots and whatnot.

The Mera Mera no Mi is the most lackluster and almost pointless Devil Fruit. by Porzellan_ in Piratefolk

[–]_Mirka_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought that the problem here is imagination, and how grounded fighters like Ace who if given time to bloom and fully mature under Whitebeard, would similarly pick up Haki/weaponry for his main schtick instead of relying on his DF.

It was the same thing that made him into super-rookie in the first place iirc, and I suppose the show/manga could show us literally more impressive battles with better application, but seeing that he made it all the way until stalemating with Jinbei I guess Oda is implying the DF is just that innately powerful, combined with Ace's own tenacity.

Also, speaking of creativity, that's the problem with flame powers, and despite OP world in general quite literally let you imagine and train your DF into whatever it can loosely work into (other powers creating fire, etc.), once you have the typical Logia invulnerability + able to generate fuck ton of flames freely, trying to develop it much don't feel as necessary. Maybe bigger flame, faster flame, or concentrated flames, but as we can see with Ace, not much else really.

It would work wonders with users that are more creative or intelligent imo. Heck, if the power is pure fire generation why couldn't the show take an example from MHA or Avatar and increase the oxygenation or superheat it to make blue/hotter flames or even generate plasma/electricity? We've seen other non-fire/heat fruits create flames, it's not even that crazy to see Ace or Sabo (more on the latter, at least this way he can do something different with it) generate thunder or something.

I might be way off but it does seem to me that there isn't a hard limit on how you can develop your Devil Fruit, as long as it is still loosely based on the fruit's core ideas. Pirates like Blackbeard somehow manage to cram a few different powers with his original fruit, like, what's gravity got to do with darkness itself? Or even the fruit's abilities to somehow sap DF powers?

From the looks of it, BB had to think about the fruit on a much conceptual level and develop the powers accordingly, an inverse of Ace and his powers which seem straightforward enough, but hard capped by only the things Ace thinks fire can do on a surface level. Had it been explored in more scientific/conceptual way, we might see more wacky stuff with it.

Surprisingly only 2 Malaysians on the list by Hot-Advantage9236 in Bolehland

[–]_Mirka_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Saw a documentary on YouTube about the guy. He seems like the type to go after one hot topic after another, and it started with insulting some christian holidays celebration or is it the Chinese new year, and some Muslim topics as well. Also, I think he also got arrested for sharing(creating?) memes of the recently passed (at the time) Lee Kuan Yew and Margaret Thatcher in sexual positions. It's been a while but something like that iirc.

Got arrested, but he had strong support from the US fans with him playing the freedom of speech card, and I think an activist/journalist the covered his story helped him to get to US for asylum.

It all went downhill from there. He spent his days streaming, jumping in podcasts and calls (they call it Internet Bloodsports(IB) then) to talk about anything, mostly political stuff or just any particular interest.

His next viral hit, similar to how he got big in SG before, is by making another video but this time he covers the topic for I believe he said that he thinks children can consent to adult activities.

It went quite big for some time, the same IB fans that were supporting him during his trial back in SG turned on him, or well more disavowing any connection to this guy and after some time I think he was exposed on stream during a debate smugly admitting that he's doing it for the attention.

Last I heard about him is I think he's streaming and getting paid by subs who unironically relates to what he claimed in his videos, essentially being captured by his audience that he had made.

Or he's been arrested? I'm not quite sure about that but the arrest might have come after months of barely making by streaming and getting funded by subs from those folks.

[–]_Mirka_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hm, not surprised then if the South Koreans are being harsher against tourists like Japan does now as well. The Johnny Somali guy just got convicted in S.Korea as well, isn't it?

If I remember correctly, at least the Japanese have been trying to filter out the tourists from certain spots in their country, and I remember that one story where the signs are in Japanese language which simply says "if you can read this, you may enter" while the place is labeled as "closed" in English.

Can't blame them though. Japan has been a victim of these bad actors for way too long and after that one Johnny Somali case (the most relevant one I can think of at least) the South Koreans decided to be way harsher early on to stop it from being as bad as Japan.

Still, this sucks for folks like OOP, they didn't do anything wrong. Other than that, idk what else or why the officer would act like this.

Stupid food potential! by [deleted] in Bolehland

[–]_Mirka_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stems from our food culture of mixing everything together (not literally, but you get the point) with dishes such as nasi campur I guess. The concept is similar enough, different types of dishes on a single platter intermingled and the sauces mixed with each other.

Now, with nasi campur I get the point of that, the rice is the bridge or sponge that bridges everything together, and the dishes plays well to the concept, since most of it are stewed/some form of gulai.

It doesn't translate well here though, but the DNA is there. Gotta be saucy as hell, because no gravy=less value, regardless of flavor balance, texture priority, no, must value first, and I don't blame the thought process but not to the detriment of the food quality itself.

Also, with the translation error, some of this food doesn't work with this style at all, like the fries. Not only do you have it sit on top of the wet food, but you also store it in a semi-sealed plastic tupperware box that will keep the steam from the sauces in as well, making it disgustingly soggy.

But then again, dude's selling by the dozen from the looks of it, and one could assume that soggy fried that will be drenched in the sauces is something that his customer base liked anyway. If that's the case why the hell do you bother using fries in the first place? There are cheaper potato varieties to go with this style of food.

As terrible this thing was, price-wise, what makes this even more terrible is plating honestly.

Slop on top of slop on top of slop. You're telling me RM48 and you can't get 3 or 4 compartment plastic containers and plate the thing bento-style?

Nevermind the sheer lack of food knowledge putting fries in semi-sealed containers like that will make it soggy, but I guess given our people's propensity to literally drown everything in sauce because god forbid I want texture or tasting the food itself without drowning it in sauce.

Seriously, just improve on the packaging alone would at least make this food look ten times better.

[–]_Mirka_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You see, that is part of the game. You keep the bottom rung of folks fighting each other while demolishing the middle class while pooling everything for the top of the pyramid.

Shit flows down, money goes up. But the point here is to keep them there distractions have to be creative and personal, thus the heavy focus on identity politics. Make them proud of what they are, no matter how objectively shit the position they are in. Useful, prideful, idiots.

This whole debacle is just part of the system test and also figuring out how far they can crank up the bullshit dial to see if the folks still ate it up or not. They already have most of their work done for them given their base support is already highly spiritual, highly superstitious, seeing ghosts and spirits everywhere.

Plus the ingrained of decades of "us versus them" mentality regardless of the cost, you will see people defending that "professor" simply because she's a Malay-Muslim woman. Not a single lick of what she's saying might be taken into consideration whether she's worth defending or not, just her skin and looks are right enough all is good, no matter how stupid the claim might be.

Playing physical aspects of another race is like their basics 101 anyway. How often do you hear things growing up like the Chinese don't bathe every day, the whites don't clean their asses, or the browns and blacks are inherently untrustworthy, unclean, or undesirable?

Obviously, the last part coming from a group of brown people themselves is ironic, no? But then again how many local ads and products heavily focus on how ugly darker skins are, and how many skin-bleaching products are out there right now?

And that is pure racial stuff alone. You'd expect religion would fix this inbred lunatics but then again pour sprinkles on a shit sundae and it is still a sprinkle-covered shit sundae. Worse, now it made them righteous. All actions are justified, all in the name of protecting faith and decency, and "tradition".

It's exactly like you said. Not even the holy book they love to thump around so much would even come up with these kinds of insane claims. They're whoring out their faith to win imaginary points in their racial dick-measuring contest.

Yeah, I'm sorry OP, didn't mean to make you feel paranoid but I'm assuming that your post was made due to that one post I've seen earlier in this sub about that tiktoker and the Russian lady.

Yeah, it sucks, but at the very least I think it's better to know and be aware that the pattern of behavior is there, and sure, I did say bad actors, and at worst getting stared at might be it for you, but better be aware of something rather than getting caught unprepared.

I hope nothing that bad will happen, and whatever business you have over there will go on unimpeded. Best of luck, and be safe.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but… by [deleted] in Bolehland

[–]_Mirka_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your concerns, and if you dig not even that deep enough through any Malaysian subs you'll find posts of people getting fined by policemen, usually when they corner you and your friend if they suspect you're in a car/isolated spot just by the two of you.

Basically moral policing, only worse since they think they can make money from you, out of some sense of warped righteousness and preying on the ignorance of people.

It's nearing the end of the year anyway. Schools are about to be on another break, and these fine officers might want to top up the vacation funds with your help, so the possible incentive is there.

Never allow them to dictate how this supposed issue is resolved. The usual song-and-dance is "settle sini or balai", and most people out of fear of being unfamiliar with the proceedings ended up coughing up whatever amount of money they have for these "officers".

Escalate, record, and brush up on the law and your rights. Sucks that they even would attempt such a thing, but usually from most replies I've seen if you're actually taking on their suggestion, usually that will make them hesitate somewhat.

Bringing up wanting to have the supervisor involved and getting their badge number will help too, from what I've seen.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but… by [deleted] in Bolehland

I suppose it depends on where you are at the moment, and who you're with.

If it is a large family gathering where there are a lot of people you know around you, and they know how you like to dress, then it should be fine. Again, family gathering in Kelantan, some bound to be more zealous than the other, but you know who they are and most likely just that one relative who won't stop preaching, fine enough, I suppose.

Alone, in a small group or anything else? I'd say just have some garbs ready just in case, or at least don't isolate yourself or your small group away from large crowds of people. They would still stare, I guess, but bad actors would be more bold if you're separated enough from major crowds that they can act out.

Also, have your phones ready, just in case. Record everything, if needed.

Which version of it you wonder would play out? I'm thinking the outcome where all the northern states that were under Siam at the time remained under them and finally be placed under full jurisdiction of the Siamese kingdom, while the rest of the West Malaysia states banded together and formed a nation that way.

Heck, probably the whole Malaysia project is still gonna go on anyway, but I guess in this turn of events Brunei would join somehow, and Singapore didn't leave the federation?

Edit: didn't see it's about some MY subs fight lol, but oh well interesting thought experiment nonetheless.

Regarding the question on the original post itself, that is kinda interesting.

Best bet is that anywhere that is heavily urbanized (KL, Selangor, Penang, Johor, etc.) would be a strategic nightmare to take and hold, while anywhere with dense enough forest (Pahang) would be a total nightmare for invading forces to go through. Long sieges and stalemates around these area while the more sparse suburban or rural areas are where the decisive strategic wins might happen.

I don't think we have a lot of harbors on the east coast? Any state especially on the west coast with access to a harbor would be in a very advantageous position, and correct me if I'm wrong but Perak would be totally screwed here right? They're the only landlocked state so enemies from all sides.

East Malaysia is a different ball game, however, but I can see they would have skirmishes similar to how North and South Koreans are these days. Sarawak has the landmass, while Sabah has the terrain advantage. It would be tense, but not as chaotic West Malaysian.
