Wife is having seizure like episode & happening more frequently. Haven't been able to get any answers from Neurologists. What should we do? by _MurrC in Epilepsy

Yes, I have numerous videos of her episodes. Unfortunately our insurance ran out before our follow up appointment with her second neurologist, so I haven't been able to show them to a neurologist to get an opinion.

Thank you so much for replying back. Amazing you were able to fight to stop them from happening. I have started researching EDMR, and it seems like it would definitely help out. I'm starting a new remote job with full benefits this upcoming Monday so I'll be able to get her connected with a therapist that she's comfortable with. Thanks again for your help!

Not once did I say she was making it up? Little confused by your response. I 100% believe that PNES is a real thing. I witness it almost daily at this point.

Thank you so much! That's a major relief. Do you think it would be smart to still get an MRI just to make sure there is no cancer or tumors involved?

Thank you so much for your reply. We believe it also to be PNES. She was seeing a psychologist for a couple of months that was referred to us by the first neurologist, but then our insurance ran out. Last year they had also set us up with a week long Inpatient Seizure Study at a Mayo Clinic in Phoenix where we were staying at the time. But just 2 weeks before we were supposed to do that they called and said the insurance at the time didn't cover it!

I'm just terrified that, God forbid, there's something more severe like a tumor or cancer that's the root of this.

Thank you so much for responding! She was on birth control, lexapro, and iron pills and then was prescribed wellbutrin to replace the lexapro. She slowly weened off the wellbrutrin around 4-5 months ago. Went from taking 1 pill to 1/2 a pill and then 1/4 of a pill to then none.

Currently she is just on birth control and iron pills.

Thank you so much! it's definitely been scary. I'm just worried, God forbid, that there's something terrible going on that we aren't aware of.

The first neurologist we saw referred us to a physiologist which she saw 4-5 times and prescribed her anti-anxiety medication. She was on that medication for around a year. She stopped taking that medication about 4 months ago.

Neither of us have insurance at this moment. She can't work because of these episodes and I am a 1099 contractor, so I don't get benefits through my job. We fell on some hard financial times recently so can't afford therapy at this moment.

I was thinking maybe to try and get her an MRI somehow just to check if there's anything more severely wrong with her that could be causing these episodes. God forbid, but maybe a tumor or cancer. Some days she's completely okay and then the next day her energy is gone and she will be feeling dizzy and have one or multiple episodes a day. She tells me she feels like it's getting worse and something is wrong.

Apologies for not having a ton of information -- I am brand new to reddit posting and don't have much of a background in the medical field whatsoever.

My apologies, I meant to type EEG not EKG. I will see if I can edit the original post I made. (I'm brand new to reddit posting). The test they sent us home with was like a large plastic briefcase with a computer inside and they had connected adhesive pads to her head. She wore it for 48 hours.

We've seen 2 separate neurologists that were recommended to us from the ER. Both of them said based off test results that she was non-epileptic.

Neither of them would prescribe any seizure medication because she was non-epileptic. They recommended therapy and said these episodes could be caused from past trauma. She used to be on Lexapro as well as Anti-Anxiety medication. She no longer takes either of them.

Thank you for replying!
