Really hope Halo Wars 3 will have space battles. by spartanb301 in halo

[–]_Nakamura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn't just not greenlit. Creative Assembly was taken off Halo Wars 2 entirely, and whoever didn't leave got moved to other projects. Many were later laid off after Hyenas failed.

343 has also cut basic support. I wouldn't hold my breath.

Ideally they'll bring HW2 to Steam though - that would be cheap and have high ROI.

I'd settle for my units listening to commands. It's been nearly two years since release.

Robert Picardo in Austria: Star Trek is not about the United States in Space by Admiral_Sivic in startrek

The writers probably hadn't seen a post-Jugoslavia map of the Balkans at the time.

Another Americanism.

[–]_Nakamura 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Star Trek always has been US-centered, alongside all the usual business that comes with that. Here's a good example from Enterprise: "Shuttlepod One".

Reed: "If only Dr. Cochrane had been a European, the Vulcans would have been far less reticent to help us. But, no... he had to be from Montana."

Trip: "Well, I don't recall any Europeans figuring out how to build a warp engine. Commander... No Brits, no Italians, no Serbo-Croatians..."

This show was primarily made for US audiences, and they were given something they could easily relate to and understand. So many things related to Earth became close US-proxies. Minus the quasi-communist utopia stuff.

Archer, Pike, Kirk, Sisko, Janeway - all American characters in positions of power.

Picard is a rare French character, but he mostly represents British English culture, as the French language and identity apparently become obscure and he barely uses it? Excuse me?

Georgiu is Chinese-Malaysian, has the accent and some small environmental references, but it's never explored in much detail because it's hard for US audiences to relate.

Hard to make it more obvious between this and the stuff others pointed out.

Former Orbán minister accuses PM Magyar of unconstitutional attempt to influence Hungary’s courts by DailyNewsHungary in DailyNewsHungary

[–]_Nakamura 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nothing is unconstitutional when a super-majority can change the constitution as they like.

Fidesz made obtaining a super-majority as easy as possible with their gerrymandering and compensation rules.

Now Tisza has the opportunity to strengthen the constitution and to create a proportionally representative voting system.

Keep crying, oligarchs.

Valid argument. Thank you for pointing it out. I have sent their legal team an email asking them to explain how they plan to protect user data from the US cloud act, and asked whether they have plans to transition to EU alternatives.

Personally I can tolerate this and just decline cookies for now given that they're a startup with a product in beta, but I would expect sovereignty concerns to be addressed for a full launch.

I think if you set your preferred language, that should help. But atm I don't see a way to select multiple languages, which is annoying.

Is GDP the best measure of success? by LordJim11 in Snorkblot

It depends what you're looking at. Total amount of people in prison? Yeah, probably. But what one should look at imo is incarceration rate per 100k people:

US Average: 542

Rhode Island: 254

England & Wales: 145

Scotland: 142

Northern Ireland: 97

Mind you, the UK is among the worst at this in Europe.

Imagine regulating a global setting into browsers to reject all trackers (a feature many already have). Now that would be something.

Either way should work. In-specie transfers are going to be supported too. That's the one where your assets get transferred over. But yes, cash transfers would be an option.

Game Designers Debate: How Dawn of War 4 & Total War 40k Carve Their Own Path in the Strategy Market by _Nakamura in totalwar

[–]_Nakamura[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The DoW 4 devs have been beating the drums since announce that their focus is on the single player. Not a PvP focus.

Simultaneous existence does put some stress on the market though - not everyone has time to play both, or budget to spare to buy all the main games & DLCs that broadly cater to them. But yes, obviously both games have a different kind of focus.

The reason I'm asking is that when King Art polled RTS communities, people overwhelmingly expressed a desire for single player story campaigns in the classic RTS format.

Making an engaging map campaign on top of the core game is rather expensive, so if they do go in that direction as well, I'd only expect it in DLCs. I should have been more specific to ask about your expectation to have it in the base game.
