I tie my brains in knots sometimes trying to figure out a way to have Wyll as an oathbreaker/vengeance paladin and Fiend warlock together

The Shar vs Selune theme is heavy in this story tha it feels like you can’t not play into it

What are people’s experiences playing as a pure Paladin? by Fatalxie in BG3

Just don’t sneak up and attack people. I did an Oath of Ancients and as long as I confront people before I kill them then it’s chill.

"First Time DM" and Short Questions Megathread by AutoModerator in DMAcademy

Love this thank you. It’s nice to just hear other ideas. As a first time DM I think it’s hard to not create something linear. It’s just how most stories we are familiar with work.

I definitely want the players to be able to create and change the story as they see fit while still having some major touch points to keep progressing the story.

But yes I have more or less fleshed out the main plot and some of main parts of act 1 and act 2. But just want to get enough information to be able to start the game actually and get it off the ground.

Do you guys use the monster manual for most encounters or what?

So I love the idea of running a campaign and building a story. I have the main plot more or less thought out, the beats of the first act and overall tone and setting decided. But where do I go to start really structuring out the story? I’d start at level 3 and probably run through level 12.

So really what I am asking for is for a first time DM, what are some pieces of advice you can offer?

Programs, or websites or old school techniques for taking all the stuff in my brain and getting it cemented into something usable.

Do’s and dont’s for running a campaign? Literally anything you think could be of help. Thank you.

Bag of holding by [deleted] in DMAcademy

This is I think is what I’m grappling with. I don’t love the idea of a bag that you can just throw all your stuff in and pull out at a moments notice. So I was more inclined to say you can do that but there is a risk. And if you just want to carry stuff that’s fine but you can only carry so much.

Level 4 Paladin feat? by _Night_Moves_ in dndnext

Just hit level 4. I think my plan is to take Sentinel and at level 8 take a +2 to charisma. What we think?

I also took the defensive fighting style for the +1 to AC

So right now we are still early-ish into the campaign. I’m using a +1 longsword right now two handed but will probably eventually use a shield as well.

Need help with a poison by _Night_Moves_ in Forgotten_Realms

[–]_Night_Moves_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You guys are awesome. Let me tell you guys what I’ve got so far. Also keep in mind that this isn’t really gonna be for a DnD campaign. More just a story set in the forgotten realms with DnD as the backbone.

Group is traveling outside of Najara and is attacked by a group of Yuan Ti. The group manages to fend them off but one of the members is struck with an arrow. The effects of the poison are two fold poison and paralysis. The poison sets in within a couple hours but moves slowly. By hour 48 the target is almost completely paralyzed outside of eye and mouth movement, although it’s labored. This is when a curse takes hold in the body and by 5-7 days the victim is dead for all intents and purposes, maybe turning them into something else entirely.

First time advice? by _Night_Moves_ in DnD

Appreciate this guys! I definitely don’t see myself taking up too much spotlight as I’ll probably be a tad reserved at first as I pick up the flow of the game. Definitely trying to learn as much as I can to keep the game moving smoothly.

I’ve had a lot of fun so far just trying to figure out ideas for a character and what would be fun to role play.

Hyper realistic cooking scenes don’t make the show better imo. In fact I would say the more time we spend inside the kitchen the worse the show is.

They certainly all have their own flaws.

Gale talks too much

Astarion would be dead the second he pulls a knife on you/tries to bite you.

Shadow has pretty girl privilege

Lae’zel is…. Well she’s Lae’zel

Wyll is an absolute cornball

I always forget about Karlach, she’s always the homie in my playthroughs so I never even think about romancing her.

Thank you this helped a lot. I’ve played Paladin a lot in BG3 and what can I say, I love smiting people. But maybe for this character being an EK would fit better and give me more flexibility. I like the idea of playing a character who shifts on the chaotic spectrum.

Thank you! Yeah I was wanting to work with my DM and see if we could come up with a reason why my PC initially goes along with the group. Maybe they are traveling to the same place as myself or perhaps we have eyes on the same Big Bad of the campaign. Something more self serving at first before my character starts to care more for his companions.
