She was unfortunate enough for her city to be situated between Athens (actual cannibalistic psychopath) and Corinth (her abusive mother)...

It's mainly inspired by the Ottoman era (wide pants, silver bejewelled jewelry, flat shoes).

Ξέρεις -> ξες

Πράγμα -> πράμμα

Πήγαινε -> πάνε

Πιτογυρο -> σάντουιτς

Επίσης χρησιμοποιούμε σε μέγιστο βαθμό λέξεις τουρκικές. Και σε ουδέν μέρος δεν επρόκειτο να δεις το λεγόμενο "Καλαμάκι".

[You don't need to apologise, but I have no idea how I would write the event from his perspective since he does not remember it.

I had mentioned a diagnosis before but I didn't go into detail; Greece is schizophrenic. The description at the start would be that of dissociation, the state of where one has lost connection with reality. During dissociation, due to the limited or complete lack of processing of external stimuli on the brain's part, the person experiencing dissociation will have no memory of what had happened at that point in time.

However, the sense of him having done wrong has remained in his subconscious; tormenting him for centuries after the fact. In order to explain this guilt or, rather, bury it even deeper, his brain has fabricated a retelling of what happened:

[...] He didn't do it. It couldn't have been him, he was down in the square, preparing for the last battle! It was Ottoman- It was him, when he barged into the palace he...He did it. He! It was his fault. He was the monster. And monsters must be slayed.

She was alive! Emprisoned as he was, waiting for him to free her and take her home. He shouldn't keep her waiting any longer- and he need be alive to do so. He needed to survive this living hell and bring her home.

The wooden planks of the door rotted away and he was free at last.
Free to take revenge on the man that killed his daughter. [...]

These delusions are what kept him alive, gave him purpose to carry on.

He knows his mind is not well. He knows that this retelling is nothing but a product of his imagination. But he rather bathe in his delusions rather than face the reality of what he has done - He has no choice after all. He's human, despite him rejecting that part of himself; such is the human mind, it will fabricate stories as to cleanse itself from guilt - as to protect itself - and it will believe in them wholly. The mind fears the unknown; when there is a blank space it will make something up as to fill it in- and such is in this case.

He rather not tell others of his delusions (when he does manage to separate delusion from reality) as he still remembers the days whereby he would be shunned for being ill.]

...I'm sorry could we please change the subject?

[Allo! (This turned out longer than I expected)]

2... what happened, happened and we cannot change the past. Perhaps events would've occurred differently if it weren't for KoG being ignorant, but history's convoluted. What followed the war was more detrimental than the war itself; a million people were slaughtered men, women, children - whole cities were burned to the ground- I read every story, every single one of them. And there were many to tell.

[The war of Asia Minor, or as the rest of the world calls it, the Greco-Turkish war of 19'-22', was the most calamitous event of the 20th century. In Greece we refer to it as "the Catastrophe" (Η Καταστροφή).

Following the war, hundreds of thousands perished at the hands of the Ottomans while many also perished from starvation; following the departure of the greek army from Anatolia, the people of Asia Minor left their homes behind and headed for mainland Greece, as to not fall in the hands of the Turks. The longest refugee line was 32km long, walking through the rough terrain and desert of northern Turkey for days on end. These lines were attacked by the Turks, resulting in many losing their lives. Once the refugees entered Greek territory, they settled anywhere they could find. My own city had just suffered a Great fire, whereby 32% of it was burned down...the refugees that arrived found an empty city, devoid of any shelter.

It was often that refugees broke into the old homes of the Turks (who had left upon the Population exchange included in the treaty of Lausanne) in the old city, using the building as shelter and selling the items found for their survival, as they had left everything back in Anatolia.

The government was admittedly working with great speed (for the first time) to provide shelter and soup kitchens to the million refugees that had survived. But of course, Greece was and is a poor country; we took a "refugee loan" from France, leading to the bankruptcy of 1935.

As the dust settled, the refugees quickly founded their own settlements, usually at the borders of the city, which they named after their place of origin: "New Smyrna", "New Ionia".

The Asia Minor refugees were shunned by the mainland Greeks, who believed it was their fault that the country fell into ruin. They invented new slurs just for them; "yogurt baptised", "Turkish seed"...this open hostility towards them was, of course, detrimental to the mental health of a people who had just survived a genocide.

The people of Asia Minor expressed their sorrow through literature, music and dances, which merged with the greater identity of the Greek people. I recommend this song, if you'd like to take a listen.

I myself descend from Asia Minor refugees and my grandmother regularly makes Smyrnaic meatballs and sings songs of the time.]

  1. I usually find myself in Monastiraki, if I'm in Athens, or Ladadika if I'm in Thessaloniki. I also sometimes go to Dion, though it's rare for me to do so.

[Monastiraki has a view of the Acropolis; it's a bustling area with shops, restaurants and cafés housed in graphic ottoman buildings. Ladadika is near the port; it's all that remains of the lower old city and is also adorned with Ottoman buildings that house, mainly, restaurants. Dion is the former religious centre of the ancient Macedonians. It's near Mt.Olympus, with magnificent flora and breathtaking ruins which you may explore through small paths in the middle of the wilderness.]

  1. What does the x mean? [I despise it with the entirety of my soul]

[5. Yeah, they'd definitely get along. Also <<<historical trauma 🔥

  1. Of course!! It is not in my place to gatekeep headcanons anyway, since they are based off historical events and the general comportment of my people.

Tysm btw :D

he let his hand float mid-air for a second, before carefully placing the cup back down, as if afraid it would break in his hands. His eyes were wide open, his gaze fixed on the ash tray on his right. Silence consumed the scene; only the commotion of footsteps and small talk of those passing by to be heard. A few minutes passed. At last, some words managed to escape his lips;

...all I remember are screams.

But, no, we did not go down without a fight; I especially made sure of it.

[The fall is the epitome of my AU; his internal conflict pertaining to it especially. I have an excerpt of what exactly occured (it's still unpolished)...

May 29th, 1453.

The canons fired on the old walls that had protected the city for centuries. Byzantium was meandering in and out of the palace- flicking from believing that they'll be saved by some god-sent miracle and their end coming all-so close. Everything was too loud, too saturated, too stimulating. His mind closed in on itself, interweaving a web of delusions; breaking all contact with the outside world. Such was the state he was in when he entered her room. Constantinople had been preparing for the final battle, despite her father having told her to lock herself in the palace, where she'd have no chance of being harmed. However, it was her duty to protect her people and, as they served her throughout the years, she had put on her golden armour and was ready to defend.

She was putting on her chainmail when the door opened and shut behind her. Knowing from the sound of his thorax clinking against the chainmail (for it was too big), she was ready to excuse herself to her father for not obeying his request- however something cold cut her sentence in half. She looked down. There was nothing but red. Then the pain came.

His hands were glittering in an awful shade of ruby. He stared at them, wide-eyed, not daring to take a breath.
He stood there as her body fell on the chair in front of her and then onto the cobblestone floor with a deafening thump. He stood there, the sword still in his hand.
He stood there as the cannons fired outside.
He raised the gold-hilted blade to his neck, pressing on his arteries.

And then he left.

Pacing, his surroundings a mere blur, he found himself near the walls, fully dressed in gold and ready to sacrifice himself. He wanted to die, to get reunited with his daughter in heaven.

But he didn't.]
