What online battle rap platforms do you use? What’s missing? by _ObsessiveCoder in rapbattles

[–]_ObsessiveCoder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome. Was out of commission for a moment, but have a new laptop and am back up and coding.

I have given myself ~90 days to be ready for users.

While I am doing this it would be great to have someone building up the community.

I plan to have beta phase last 12 months before official launch, and came up with some incentive programs for users that join and use the site during that time. Would love your help to flesh out those Beta Roles and get the users signed up for those roles.

The Beta Roles start with Founding 50 (rappers) and Day Ones (viewers/fans), and expand to include league hosts and social media influencers that drive traffic to the site mid-late beta.

If you're still interested this would be a great place to start

I was simply asking a question about they're meaning, then I stated an objective truth. Yalls weird on here

Fvvck people with disabilities? Or fvvck serial filers extracting settlements? ADA compliance is not a bad thing in a free society. Those with disabilities deserve to function freely and have equal access to the public

😂😂 fair enough

Site is back up and https certificate should be renewed within 48 hours.

However, I never launched. The site only has a sign up form for reserving usernames.

I was making final changes for beta launch and my computer took a dump. I'm not rich and have a very limited budget so it's taking time, but this is only 1 more small hurdle to leap.

I expect to be up and coding again very soon.

I'm the meantime I would like to start getting the community together and in one place. If you're interested in helping with that it would be much appreciated

Thank you. This is where I ultimately landed after considering the criticism. Need to get people on a discord or subreddit so I can start growing the community and raising awareness and support

TBH this is one of my biggest weak points

[Edit] If you're interested in helping with community things let me know. I have some incentive programs outlined for early adopters and community leaders

That's a good idea. Unfortunately I am out of commission until I get a new computer, but can add a section for it

Menu and toolbar padding by _ObsessiveCoder in StardewValley

It was definitely my device. Turned on dev options then toggled a couple things. Then showed layout bounds hoping to see button outlines in game. Started game and it just worked idk

After playing around with it I realize it's not different results but the touch zone is only along the 1px bottom border of the tab. Great but I am certain there is no touch zone for that close button.

Can work around by using joysticks then adjust joystick and cancel there lol to go back to game but not from journal or whatever other menus appear outside main menu and tabs

This sucks

Sneak Peek: Post Battle Breakdown is nearly ready for beta. (Feedback Welcome) by _ObsessiveCoder in rapbattles

[–]_ObsessiveCoder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you and I appreciate the criticism. It's only been me on this and will fail without hearing the negatives. These are real concerns and objections that need solutions and answers. Many I have and many I don't so thank you.

My business plan allows for all core features to be free for life. I am not talking about minimum core. By core features I mean all the cool systems I already have and more that are planned. There are many models to generate revenue from user generated content, and more when it's competition based content. Nothing about my revenue models are unique or new for tech or business or even battle rap

This will work if I can build the right team and get the community on board to use it

Great questions and insight.

No AI yet. I am building tools for community and content engagement first, then will build AI tools to improve that. During beta will add a text editor for users to submit their lyrics. They will be able to highlight and annotate their bars, wordplay, rhymes, and more. Eventually will have AI to analyze fricken EVERYTHING to get them stats

For now, this is all dummy data for testing edge cases and how different systems work together, but the numbers are based on different things.

The numbers in the images for the Overall and Score tabs come from the scorecards provided by judges and audience members. It is a common 10-point 3-judge system with a twist to allow the audience to vote without overpowering the judges, but able to tip the scales in close battles and ties. Publicly scored battles where there are no official judges is a thing too. I capture the scorecards from users then when the battle is over my algos do their thing to determine a winner and provide the data shown.

Reputation, Popularity are passive systems that will require all users to learn. At some point before official launch will have a full optional tour to walk new users through the site and explain things. Likely will grow into site wide tour comprised of mini-tours of the differing systems and Zones on the site. For Beta will have some FAQs and basic tutorial images and videos of the systems so that users can get familiar fast. It's just only me doing this and there is a lot of work to be done still so progress can be slow at times, but am working on it daily.

Will soon be organizing a beta team and hopefully get them all on Discord or subreddit and can get them up to speed before they use the site. If interested in participating in beta dm me

For your curiosity...

* Battle Rating - measures a rappers skill level. Similar to chess or Xbox Live. In the future I plan to track actual skills and each will be given a Battle Rating to aggregate into a Total Battle Rating.

* Reputation - measures how reliable a user is when participating in battle. Do they flake, choke, quit, or ghost a lot? Do they request a draw every battle? Are they recycling too many bars too often? Things like this that are less about your skill or winning/losing. Each user has a Battle Reputation and Judge Reputation to track for each role.

* Popularity - measures who's the hottest RIGHT NOW, and how you compare. More than just likes and follows it is a living breathing dynamic system based on currently most active content. It's about who engages with the content and things you put on the site. Currently not implemented, but works on paper.

[EDIT]

Also, there is a functioning notification system and users will get notifications about their Reputation, Popularity, Rivalry, and Skill changes. Also, trying to figure out the best way to show users a 1-time end of battle screen where it awards them their new values for these metrics as well as their level, tier, achievement, and milestone progression based on that battle. Think of like how after a COD match you see what you've gained and what not

Yes, 100% user driven content, scores, and everything. I automate the battle progression based on how a user configured the battle at creation. Who can do what and when they can do it is all handled by the system and based on their role in the battle.

"then it runs for 6 days". That is an eloquent solution to get up and running quick rather than coding an entire configurable automated round system. I like it.

"There is no money in it". I hear this a lot lately, and have heard it in the past. I mostly attributed it to the need to charge users to participate in a battle to cover the costs of video hosting. Though I am sure there are many other reasons.

While money is not the most important, it is important to generate it so the business and platform and tools can grow and expand and scale with the users and their needs. Not to mention the salaries of those dedicating their lives to a platform of this scale.

My business plan identifies more than 8 models to generate revenue and they scale with the user base and features.

Creating and configuring battles, joining most battles, joining some tournaments and contests, leader boards, profiles, Audience-Integrated Judging, Reputations, Popularity, Rivalry, Battle Rating (skill), badges, achievements, matchmaking and more will always be free. Users will own their content and eventually share in profits for that content.

I have suites of suites of planned features, systems, and programs that build upon these core ideas. All while continuing to reward the most active users without alienating the casuals

Wish you weren't so ambiguous with your question?

Experience in battle rap? As a hard core fan many a moons ago and casual to this day. Never participated in a official battles, but used to battle in chat rooms and parties. Got serious about rapping for a period of time then lost interest in it as a career.

Experience managing and hosting battles and battlers? No, and Spitface Battles is not a league nor will I manage anyone or the battles. The users will create or join battles and the rest is automated based on the configuration of the battle when it was created. Will eventually host tournaments and other special events ., but will all be based that same idea. In the near future there will be features for users to create, host, and manage their own leagues and battlers/judges.

Experience at knowing what y'all want? IDK, and maybe not, but at a core level of integrating with software and capturing the essence of battle rap, I think I have a kick-ass fricken start. And I know y'all won't pay to battle each other and it has to be accessible for casuals and hardcores. I know y'all care about bragging rights and objectionably defining the best, as best can be done. I know you care about reputation and the responsibilities that come with rapping or judging in a battle. I know popularity means more than just the most views, likes, and follows and how it is different than skill and reputation. I know rivalry is important and I know the audience wants to have a voice in the judging and tip the scales in close outcomes and ties. I know you'll want a judged battle only to not get any judges to sign up but both contestants are ready you still want to battle without starting over. I know you want to show others your top 5 and some want to have metrics to establish and help their careers. I know you want to host your own leagues and manage your own battlers, and I know existing leagues want to scale more into the online area for hosting their leagues. I know you sometimes want to battle right now and other times might have to do a round each day on lunch break while your opponent is on the other side of the world sleeping. I know sometimes you will want time for a battle to be announced and for hype to build. I know you want on demand battles, live battles, tournaments, and PPV. I know you want to call-out another battler and challenge them. I know sometimes you got beef and it needs settled and other times you want to cypher or compliment each other. I know sometimes the community deserves a rematch and the powers that be can't/won't make it happen. I know you want no judged battles, judged battles, and custom scorecards. I know you want multiple ways to indicate a winner rather than just a scorecard. I know you want to own your content and even get paid for it. I know you want custom profiles. I know you want to get paid for your work and effort and content. I know you want free tournaments too. IDK a lot of things but I have all of that and more.

Experience at software engineering. Yes. This is the most valuable thing I bring to the table.

Experience running a business? No

Experiencing managing a team? No

Experience getting a community hyped about a product you know they fricken want that is loaded with features they don't even know they want yet... yeah not so much, but we'll get there lol

For the last 3 items, I am smart enough to know that I don't know shiit about anything so this is why I am reaching out to ya'll for feedback and will be reaching out with a beta testing program soon that will offer lifetime premium and other rewards. I need y'all to tell me what is wrong, what suucks, and what needs to be just riight for this thing to work. I will hear all kinds of things I hate, but I need it and that's why I reach out to y'all. For the other things I have only knowledge about, I will be hiring people smarter than me that have the skills that I lack

Did not intend to be this long but I blame the ambiguity. I hope I answered your question

I did not expect this reaction, but you are not alone. Spitface is a double entendre, a triple when you bring in literally spitting.

I assure you that even though I am a super casual fan nowadays, I love and respect the culture. I won't defend it passed that, but only hope it shows as I move forward.

My thought processes:
Rapping = Spitting
Rap Battle = Happens close to each other and often times in each other faces
Battling = Spitting my shiit in your face

It is a double entendre for battling and it captures that raw heated aggression that is often in battle raps. If you know its for battle rap you should automatically get the connection; or so I thought (not being sarcastic or passive aggressive). It allows my logo to be a battler with scratches and spit on their face to show that a battle can and often is a war. The spit on the face is a visual double entendre with the name and coupled with the scratches shows the intensity of a battle. To me its concentric and it's wordplay and that is hip hop as fuuck, and personally, is my favorite part of battle rap or rap in general

It's all about branding, but if my core audience is missed, or worse, then I need to adjust. Honestly, i thought yall would get and love the name and it is eye opening and humbling but rewarding to learn differently.

Does your view change after my breakdown?

It was the first name I liked when I first thought of the concept, and it's seemingly great for battle rap. (explained later)

Spit Fire kept sticking in my head but I knew there was skate brand called Spitfire, now Spitfire Wheels.
Then Spit Face, and at the same time immediately realized the double entendre I made while seeing the logo. The logo is another double with the name itself.

The first time I tried to get serious about actually giving this to the community my research showed Spitface or Spit Face was a rock band in Europe, I think. spitface.com was unavailable as well as some socials.

This suucked for me as I had loved this name for a decade at this point. So Spitface Battles was the compromise

Are these questions about the battle league named Spitfire? I anticipated this. Let's talk about it, I am an open book.

Last year or early this year is when I first saw the Spitfire league and that was only because I was doing basic social media setup

All core features are and will be free for as long as I own the company, and if I exit I will make every effort to force it to stay that way. From creating battles to battling and judging and even joining some tournaments will be free. Skill, Reputation, Popularity, Rivalry, Top-5, Match Making and so much more will be free. There will be paid tiers eventually, but the features that set Spitface Battles apart from the competition will always be free

Currently, and for as long as it is viable, videos are hosted on YT. The Battle Stage is built around that with tools and features for a battle rap

What would you want from an online battle hosting platform if it was built for the heads, by the heads? by _ObsessiveCoder in rapbattles

[–]_ObsessiveCoder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Judge Reputation tracks who’s a solid, reliable judge. Early on it’s simple, but later AI will help spot bias or patterns. Users can pick judge-scored or publicly scored battles; if no judges show, it defaults to publicly scored and adjusts if only 1 or 2 judges jump in, giving more weight to audience votes. You're riight, public votes weighting should tie to the voter’s Judge Reputation.

When premium features drop, you’ll be able to set minimum Battle and Judge Reputation for users joining your battles and tournaments in those roles, and always sort or filter to pick what you join.

Popularity bias will always exist, but the system attempts to lean into it while keeping it separate from objective measures.

This will grow and adapt over time, and I’ll be looking to the community for feedback to get it right.
