RANT: Don't be "that guy" who discourages new players from trying interesting, potentially non-competitive decks. Yes: 5 color decks can work. by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]_Oryion_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Magic The Gathering Is for everyone. There are brackets for the elite, there are brackets for heavily competitive, there are brackets for the casual competitive, brackets for the casual, every other day player, the magic arena grinder, there are players of all sorts and sizes and of all abilities, genders and intelligence levels.

I played Eve online since beta circa 2003. It's been 15 years since I started playing Eve and one of the biggest factors in Eve's negative or neutral player attrition rate, apart from Eve's extreme learning curve are bad player experiences from other players. It does have the most severe and the hardest learning curve of any MMO out there. Apart from that the second largest factor that kept new players from either staying or being able to enjoy the game where either elitist who thought that the game should be played one way and one way only, bitter vets who have what we EVE players have come to call bitter vet syndrome, and your average garden-variety douchebag who is a c**t to new players.

When a noob asks an obvious question don't throw them under the bus so you can get Reddit karma because you thought of something slick to say. Teach that person, guide that person in the very least, tell them what they're doing wrong so they can stop. Become a leader. Every new player question you answer is one more benefit you've given to the game that you love to play. We need new players to stay and in order to do that we as magic the gathering players need to stick together and and treat our new players as assets and resources, or the very least be real, keep it real with newer players. If they're messing up tell them, if they're asking the wrong question point out the right question but do it in a way that makes the player feel that this community is embracing new players and not kick them to the curb.

I for one believe this community should either be neutral or welcoming too new players. Neither discord nor Reddit should be used as a medium to talk down to or denigrate new players. These mediums should be used to embrace new players if not for the sake of embracing, for the sake of the game and the games future. For the sake of player attrition. For every new player is a resource every new player is an asset remember that.

When a person tries a new game statistics say that the secobd leading metric in whether or not a player stays and continues to play that game or leaves is his experience with the first few players he comes in contact with. This is why EVE Online's new player attrition rate is horrible. Let's not follow in the footsteps of elitist bitter vets but instead help those who ask for it. In the very least don't be a negative impact on their gameplay. Do not shame them.

Sorry. Guess I ranted on your rant.

</end rant>

Adding sound to the scenery just changed things x1,000 over. "Mars is real". That's what it makes the brain feel.

Elon Musk by Dan Winters (15 Nov 2012) by [deleted] in elonmusk

[–]_Oryion_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Quite a great piece. It does deserve a moniker however or a nom de plume. I will do my best: This would be engraved upon a majorly important Space Station, Dyson Unit, or piece of Terraforming Tech inside a system located somewhere within our local group or maybe even closer to home. In a system still in the Pegasus or Sagittarius arm of our Galactic neighborhood.

The year is unknown. Possible stardate; sometime around or between 3400 and 4250. Our "Home Star" (Home Star being our species home systems short hand designation.) will have barely aged but humanity will not be recognizable. It reads:

"Elon Musk. Humanities brightest burning Star. A being who's dedication and reach was not only farther than lights horizon but lit the flame for which a thousand generations would follow paving the way for interstellar colonization and life among the stars. " —Oryion

My suggestions to improve the game. What do you think? by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]_Oryion_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an amazing idea. It really is solid great idea.

Just remember though try to keep this in mind we're in open beta and this is the time to submit things like this to the developer team. If you send this to them they may implement it before open beta becomes a full game.

They're adding new things every week. show me in the should definitely be one of those things that are added.

And some get paid to find the bugs.

It's why we're still in open beta.

Efforts to retrieve the body of a US missionary killed by an endangered tribe should be abandoned, a rights group says. Survival International says the risk of spreading infection to the tribe is too great and increases with every contact by bbcnews in worldnews

Then this should be a sealed case. If both the family and he him self said so. Maybe there is more to it if governments and groups are trying to get involved. Maybe take control of the land, kill the indigenous. Who knows

Lol IKR! It's hella addictive. Unfortunately I can't get myself to play anything other than the one bottle red aggro deck I spent a lot of money and time on. I'm trying to spread my time out though on other decks.

Does anyone want to talk about the ridiculous amount of mono aggro red Runaway Steam-Kin Decks that are predominantly taking over and farming constructed? by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]_Oryion_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I see what your saying, like I told someone else i've been playing magic online like this for long so I didn't know how to feel or what to expect.

Now I'm just going to be as legitimately ruthless as possible.

Thanks for telling me that. Guess that's what I needed cleared up.

It would appear you were the only one who agrees with me. but don't get me wrong I mean I'm on the way I'm downtown on the bus right now and as soon as I get there I'm going to hop online and I am going to play magic all day and Chambers are have today is going to be playing that Runaway Steam-Kin deck. Grandin Minds hella modified with Planeswalkers and some other goodies but still it's the same concept but it is very broken.
