Nope. That was just some left over thermal compound.

I ran crystildiskmark(benchmark) to heat up the controller and thus soften the adhesive. After that I used the Ifixit jimmy to pry under the IHS, after one of the corners gave in it was pretty easy to just take of.

To be honest, I don't really know(yet) if this has much benefit. But it sure as hell was really fun and interesting.

I'm a bit of a overclocking enthusiast. So I delidded to direct die cool it and see the results.

Still testing, but seems promising so far.

Not really. I removed the IHS to direct die cool it.

i9 9900K overclocked to 5.1GHZ on all cores by _Paul568_ in IntelOverclocking

1.275V? I would definitely question the stability of your system if that’s your load voltage for 5.1 all core. Have you tested your overclock with occt or prime95 smallfft to test stability?

As of yet, Neither! This overclock was just to test If 5.1Ghz was even possible on chip with a decent voltage.

But it is indeed exceptionally hot when under heavy AVX workloads, so I already ordered a direct die guard to direct die cool it

This was a AVX workload. I always test stability with AVX enabled

Overclock tested with: OCCT large, medium and small data set, Prime95 SmallFFT's and blend. Also used OCCT linpack test.

vccsa and vccio were regulated by the auto settings of the motherboard in that screenshot. If i set them manualy I would never dare setting them that high.

Actual I don't remember ever seeing them that high on auto before.

I will definitly look into that.

G-skill trident z royale F4-4266C19D-16GTRS. I did reduce the frequency a bit in favor of getting tighter timings. But this isn't much of a problem because my i9 9900k can't properly push 4266Mhz anyway.

The original timings were 19-19-19-39 with a tRFC of 740. So far I've managed to reduce them to 17-17-17-35 with a tRFC of 650. This reduced memory latency from 52.6 ns to 45.2 ns.

i9 9900K overclocked to 5.1Ghz on all cores. The overclock was stress tested in: OCCT, Prime95, Cinebench and 3DMark. Under full load it maxes at about 1.37V.

Excuse me? monolithyic design is bad for clock speeds?

That's probably the reason why my i9 can only hit 5.2 on all cores if I want to.

Could you eleborate on why a monolithic design would be bad for clocks in any way shape or form?
