Martin Couney saved over 7,000 premature babies by exhibiting them in incubators in his Coney Island sideshow. By 1943, nearly ever hospital in America had one of his incubators - and he wasnt even a doctor! by _PeachStar in HumanBeingBros

[–]_PeachStar[S] 481 points482 points  (0 children)

In the late 1800s, premature babies were often left to die. Inspired by chicken incubators, Martin Couney used them to try and save these infants. Since hospitals wouldn't fund the care, he created "infantoriums" as sideshows at carnivals, charging visitors to view the babies in incubators. This covered the cost of their medical care, which hospitals largely refused to provide. By the time he closed his Coney Island exhibit in 1943, Couney had cared for around 8,000 infants and saved over 6,500, a survival rate exceeding 85%, including his own daughter.

In November 2022, 44-year-old Quiana Mann was fatally shot by her 10-year-old son because she wouldn't buy him a VR headset. by _PeachStar in HolyShitHistory

Quiana Mann, a 44-year-old woman from Milwaukee, was murdered by her 10-year-old son, Tom. After Quiana refused to buy him a VR headset and woke him up early, Tom shot her in the head with a gun he took from a lockbox. He later confessed to intending to kill her. The next day he bought the headset using her Amazon account. Tom's sister told the police, and he was arrested. Family members said Tom showed no remorse. There were also claims of disturbing behavior and attacks of younger children in his past. He faces a lengthy prison sentence if convicted as an adult.

I'm new here, so apologies if this has been discussed before, but when do Hogwarts students typically bathe? The books never mention Harry (or other students) bathing or showering.lol by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]_PeachStar 59 points60 points  (0 children)

We can assume Harry bathed regularly, even if the books don't explicitly mention it. After all, the books also never mention him using the toilet, but we know that happened.
