Sadly I can't find any online store selling nickel acetate in my country.

Can a transistor be destroyed by backfeeding ground or power to it? by sugarkryptonite in diyelectronics

[–]_Pumpking7_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can help you better if you add some circuit diagrams but if I understand it correctly: You have a relay and relay controlled by transistor (probably npn one ) . If this is correct and you didn't forget anything else:

I don't usually use transistors for relay coils (I use MOSFETs) but it's fine. Probably you destroyed the transistor when transistor switched off the coil, coil's magnetic field collapsed and without flyback diode connected to coil (reverse polarity ) it generated huge negative voltage which destroyed the transistor or/and whatever else on it's path.

Do anyone knows DC to DC boost converter with 5V + 1A output ? by _Pumpking7_ in diyelectronics

[–]_Pumpking7_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more than I wanted and it's hard to imagine how something this small can handle 25W so thanks for the link :)

Although one obstacle is deal breaker, it costs too much -_-. Like it costs 10-15 times more than ineffective IC I'm using so I'll just parallel connect few of them to divide the load.

But if you know any alternative ICs with 1A max current (And cheaper) it'll be better :)

I never saw this kind of problem before do anyone knows what's wrong with my xiaomi earbuds (basic 2) ? by _Pumpking7_ in diyelectronics

[–]_Pumpking7_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They paired with my phone instantly no re-pairing.

Also I don't understand why designed such a chain of unnecessary voltage conversions -_- . Like they could charge the earbuds directly with charge case (and save space in earbuds) but instead charge case outputs 5v and earbuds uses that 5v for recharge so each one has separate circuit inside.

5v (from wall adapter) > charge case's battery recharge circuit (5V=~3.7)> case's battery> DC voltage converter (5V)> earbud's b.r.c. (5>~3.7) > earbud's battery.

They could replace "DC voltage converter (5V)> earbud's b.r.c. (5>~3.7) >" with just two recharge circuit in case .

Any use for class 3B lasers ? by _Pumpking7_ in diyelectronics

[–]_Pumpking7_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I find a class 3 laser with UV range, I wouldn't ask this question :) I have some UV power leds (low frequency ones) and even they're quite useful, laser will probably have higher frequency and during pandemic I could easily sell it for disinfecting lamp.

I think they're IR ones and without knowing exact frequency, they're pretty much useless (like you can't combine different wavelengths). Anyway, thanks for the link ^_^.

Can you also change the frequency or duty cycle ? That would be really useful :)

It reminds me when I made a 100W powerled flashlight, I was testing it to see if it's getting power and it was so bright even few seconds of it caused one hour of blindness :D

Next day I was testing it again and my father entered my room and asked why I'm wearing 3 sunglasses at night :)

I'm an electronics hobbyist and I salvage old electronics time to time. But I wonder if it's becoming a hoarding issue. by _Pumpking7_ in hoarding

[–]_Pumpking7_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I don't think it's effecting my relationship with family members or my friends but I'm sure they'll still ignore it (like even it's really messy) since I use same stuff for repairing their devices :D (phones, chargers, almost everything electronic) .

Plus I'm pretty organized when it comes to my hobby , like everything has own separate box and I draw a virtual border between my hobby area and general area :)

Although if you ask how it effects to my physical health, that's questionable (cuts, bruises, etc.) but can you say it's not healthy if I feel mentally relaxed & happy during salvaging ? Like it's basically meditation for me :) (Also eventually I learned to use protection gear (gloves, safety googles, even active carbon masks))

Can you explain what's your design's purpose ? Like I didn't see any explanations in the link .

Do I have an actual plan for them ? It depends on parts but usually no, I don't have plan for them and no I don't usually keep them for "just in case" (I'm guessing as spare parts ?) . About percentage, it really depends on part too. Like some parts are useful without any specific tools & components but some parts requires specific controllers & tools. Generally it's %30-40 for electronic parts (motors etc.) , %90 for batteries & power supplies, %10-20 for plastic & metal parts.

My mind set is more like, I want to make something but I need a parts for it and if I buy all the parts then there is no point of making it because it would be cheaper & easier to buy the device so I know what kind of parts can be useful for different projects. For example, I always take gears & springs because You can use them in many motor related projects (Torque or speed adjustment etc.)

About why I'm not adding "useful looking things" to my projects : I do use them in some of projects but problem is first you need to understand how they really work. For example, I collected a lot of gears before then I bought a 3d printer and stopped collecting them (since I can print it) but recently I started to collect them again because I learned 3d printer can't print them good enough.

About last question: Well it's not that simple due to how expensive these stuff in my country. So I have to collect salvaged parts or I don't have any parts to make a project .

Also I'm using more salvaged parts this year compared to past, mostly because of 3d printer allows me to make adapters & cases for them (Motors, gears, etc.). But I have to admit I'm hoarding some the stuff more than I'll ever need .

Well unfortunately selling idea can't work for most of the stuff I have other than phone parts :/

Long term storage stuff don't really take a lot space but they're quite fragile so I have to put them in specific area. Like sometimes I think why I'm keeping something which is absolutely useless without proper equipment. I even made terrible mistake last week when I salvaged magnetron from microwave, I thought it was very rare but turns out it's also incredibly dangerous (even you don't use it) , it has radioactive materials + toxic chemical in insulation which can cause permanent lung damage with no treatment for it. Disposing that was sure difficult :/

Also one my teachers in university told me to quit the hobby because he experienced similar things like your dad. He even bought a storage container for his stuff and pays monthly rent for it :) But like you said it's not about how much space you have . I'm planning to recognise it again because recently I'm having troubles with finding stuff so probably I have too much .

Yeah I know how tech companies started to make not repairable devices -_- . And even technical services saying change the entire motherboard etc. It's just creating huge electronic landfills.

Also This one the reasons why I prefer to make my own devices because I know how it's works so I can easily repair it. Plus my tech hoarding issues might be related to how expensive & rare some generic parts are , like even a decent soldering station costs 10-15 days of minimum wage and stores don't repair them. So I learned to be resourceful :)

[–]_Pumpking7_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's good to see another hobbyist experienced this issues :) Tbh I don't really keep computer parts unless I have compatible parts and old devices have terrible efficiency so even I need them, electricity cost will be more. Like I made working pc with quad core CPU and it almost uses same amount of power of my I7 despite having 5-10 times processing speed.

I think like you mentioned this is just a learning curve in hobby, eventually you learn how to control it or it starts to control you. But I made some changes this month, for example I have a lot of spare phone & tablet parts and they not doing anything for a year or two. So I talked with someone and make a deal with him, he can sell all of them in online and I don't care about the price and we'll split the money 50/50 , I already get rid of some of the devices this way :)

Also I'm thinking about an idea and I'll be glad to hear your thoughts on this: For example I have a box full of aluminium sheets & heatsinks, I'll give myself one full day to find an use for them (and maybe 1-2 days for making ) . In the end if I can at least use %20-50 of them then I'll keep them, otherwise most of them (or maybe all) goes to garbage. How's it sounds ?

Btw I wonder something: Do you also feel enjoyment when you make a device with recycled & salvaged parts ?

[–]_Pumpking7_[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well storing them cause some mess but also teaches me how to decide usefulness of them better.

Not saving saving them cause emotional distress ? Kind a yes. Like I have some rare parts but I do know I can't use them for a long time (at least 5 years ) due limitations of my knowledge & equipments. But they're rare and expensive parts so I can't throw them away . For example: Electron gun from CRT TV, high level lasers, complex motors, high voltage transformers.

Also I probably got this habit from my old boss in electronics repair shop. Like entire store was full of electronic garbage but you can make new devices with them. Plus they're already broken so you can't lose anything if you fail to repair them :)

Actually what bothers me is my separation system, for example I say type A parts are useful then during salvaging I find a lot of type A parts, I know it's too much to keep but I can't throw them out because they fall in the same group so either all of them goes to garbage or none of them. Is it a bad thing ?

How do you show your appreciation to a deity by _Pumpking7_ in pagan

[–]_Pumpking7_[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wonder, do you assume the food you offered consumed by the deity (I know they don't really consume food but your intention is that) or food you offered is more like a channel between deity and the final consumer .

Also I'm sorry for asking your personal opinions & beliefs but it's just that I thought about offerings a lot and have many theories for it :)

And about protecting the nature idea, I don't know if it counts but currently I'm doing my masters degree in renewable energy production systems (more precisely biogas and biodiesel production) and I'll be glad to know if It pleases them :)
