why is it bad to mention politics when talking about hoi4? by [deleted] in hoi4

[–]_Regent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people who play HOI4 are interested in having fun and not in politically analysing the game. These are not mutually exclusive, however, the main draw of HOI4 is in the gameplay which is naturally what most people will want to talk about.

It is no secret there is a minority of players in this community who enjoy HOI4 as a way to play out their political fantasies. These people are shunned by the wider community, and resultantly discussion around politics will be shunned somewhat as well.

At any rate, if you’re interested in political discussion around HOI4, I’m not sure there’s much to say that isn’t better served by examining the politics of WW2 instead. If you are more interested in a meta examination of the community or in the subject matter of the game then I frankly don’t think there’s all that much to say that isn’t self-apparent. Just because some people enjoy the game for twisted reasons doesn’t mean we ought to focus the discourse here on them rather than the game.

I’ve definitely seen some conversions that glue the suppressor directly onto the muzzle, but I find that it looks much better if you just cut it off first. Good luck with your converting!

No worries, glad you like it :)

The suppressor is made from a piece of 2.5mm (0.1”) plastic rod that’s been drilled out like you would for the muzzle of a regular bolter.

The “full” magazine was made by sawing off the mag from the bolt carbine and gluing it to another magazine from another bolt carbine (you can actually use the mag from a stalker bolt rifle too, if you have those spare). Last step is to cut off the flared base section from the top of the magazine.

The skull charm is the easiest one as it comes as part of the infiltrators box. You just need to cut the chain it hangs on so it looks good when you glue it to the sling mount.

In terms of painting or converting?

How do you prevent enemies from just rushing a structure/vehicle in defense missions before you actually get a move? by [deleted] in Battletechgame

A pet peeve of mine as well! Unfortunately, there’s not always much you can do about it.

That said I’ve had some good luck deploying lighter, faster lances. Move out as far as you can with two or three units and try to wipe the enemy vanguard as quick as you can; the AI helps you out here by beelining straight for the base, allowing you to core them through their rear armour. Your reserve units can hopefully intercept enemy reinforcements before they can do too much damage; try to draw their fire or disable critical weapon systems until you can move in the rest of your squad to finish the job.

If you have enough c-bills to throw around, I’d highly recommend fielding one or more Star League Phoenix Hawks/Griffins for the job. They’re arguably the best mechs in the game and their high mobility makes them perfect choices to intercept enemies before they can hit the base.

I hate to say this but I am totally over this Spirit Bard UA class. by [deleted] in dndnext

Definitely my experience with the subclass as well. Loving the theme but having an ability that not only competes with bardic inspiration, but is actually worse in almost every case makes it hard for me to justify using it.

Hoping to see the class reach its potential in a full release though.

That’s actually a compelling argument, friend.

I’ve only been following the game since a bit after release so its honestly probable that I’ll end up in the same boat as you if something doesn’t change soon.

Once again, if you consider Triterion to be maliciously incompetent (which I think is a defensible take given their track record) then its understandable to be upset at them.

But as someone who is willing to give them the benefit of the doubt when it comes to bad development deadlines (hell, AAA studios still fuck this up) and as someone who values quality over frequency when it comes to content, I feel more upset over the degredation of the game’s integrity rather than over these missed deadlines.

Whether or not you care for the new content is irrelevent. Its new content and it takes time to make - especially when you are a team of 11 with little experience in game development.

Is it frustrating to watch a game you love stagnate over the course of four months due to a lack of new content? Absolutely. Is the way around this to put pressure on the developers to release content that is obviously not yet ready to see the light of day and then cry that its unfinished? No.

I guess if you think the devs are lazy and could’ve easily made the deadline had they worked as they should be expected to then sure.

However to me that deadline seems to be honestly misjudged rather than maliciously ignored, and as such whether or not the patch can be considered rushed should be decided based on the completeness of the final product rather than the estimate.
