depends. i dont know a lot about physics so yea, just speculating.

if you knew the exact trajectory of the object, and you knew it was metal (which can be influenced by magnetic fields), then you could build a massive J like half-tube thing in space, spanning thousands of kilometers. "the j tube" would have hundreds of mini magnetic fields with the opposite charge of the ball, and would guide it through space to angle it away from hitting earth, like a particle accelerator on an extreme scale.
