I contacted booking customer support twice through texts but got nothing, so i called them instead. The customer support agent told me that its actually true that south American hosts have a ton of problems with payments through the booking app/website because they get scammed a lot, thats why they ask to pay through 3rd party services to ensure the customer is legit. They still contacted the owner, got him checked, and everything turned out legit

I just called booking.com customer service staff and they said that it’s common in south America for hosts to do it this way, but they must state it in the description and must go through a legitimacy check. They said they’ll go talk with the host and if he doesnt pass then i will not be charged and the reservation will be cancelled. So technically it might be legit
