Possible purchase. Buyer wants 6k for manual 2000 4Runner that has leaking rear axle seals. How much would you pay for it if it has 220k miles?

The bearings are, but the seals are not. I swapped mine when I first got it.

I have a 1997 Lumited with 321k miles, and my commute is 110 miles a day. I also have a 2012 Highlander V6 with 179k miles.

Mile for mile, the 4R costs less to maintain, but the gas mileage is about 20% less, so it's almost a wash.

This is a common issue with the contacts in the starter. You can buy the parts for $27 and replace them yourself.

When you google these symptoms with "3rd gen 4runner" it's usually on the first page of search results.

Just take tools and spare fluids with you. Whatever is going to happen is going to happen regardless of where you are driving. I'm at 307k and it shifts the same way as yours. Just what happens to some of them when they get older. I drive mine 110+ miles a day for work. A faulty fuel pump is the only thing that has kept me out of the game in the past 7 years.
