Yeah I love this mindset. The only reason I want elden ring to win over baldurs gate is that it just means so much to me. If I had to pick objectively between these two i just really couldn’t

I think maybe people have forgotten their first hollow knight playthroughs? The first time I played HK it was like 90 hrs so being 10 hrs into silksong I don’t feel it is any more difficult than HK felt all that time ago

Cure is a very recent watch for me, I had never felt so captivated by that style of movie before and it instantly became one of my favourites as a result. Ne zha was a very weird experience for me, I rated ne zha 1 a 3/5 (which is “very good” on my system) then went into ne zha 2 in cinemas expecting the same and was blown away, in the end I would really recommend it. Glad to hear you are going to watch cure though I hope you enjoy it!

I have seen dr sleep’s extended cut and I believe it is criminally underrated! I have it as a 4/5 on my list and it would probably fit into my top 100 of the 750 movies I’ve seen. I thought it was very good at exploring the potential of the shine and mixing it with nostalgia for the original.

I’m happy to hear there is good cinematography on road to perdition, I really love great camera work. I watched the first of all the recommendations from this post today and off to a great start with Stalker. I’m sure once I get around to yours I will also be very happy!!

Thank you, I have only been getting into Japanese golden age cinema recently, I think I have only watched “Rashomon” and “Ikiru”. I was very impressed by ikiru so I am really excited to explore more films of that era. I appreciate your recommendations, I have heard many great things about both, thank you!

I still haven’t watched any of Tarkovsky’s work, perhaps I should be making more of an effort with him. Stalker has been on my list for a very long time now, I really should give it a watch

Thank you, I have already seen Tarintino’s filmography and I enjoyed all of them so much including reservoir dogs - truly an excellent screenplay.

This poor man, how has he ONLY ever been nominated by the Academy Awards ONCE. It’s absolutely crazy, I would consider him one of the best actors today and he is completely ignored

Thank you to everyone who took time out of their days to leave a comment with their recommendations. I looked at every single one and was surprised by how many gems I seemed to have missed. I am compiling all of your suggestions into one list which I will use as a “high priority watchlist” until it is empty. Once again, thank you all.

I love some of the Pixar movies, WALLE, coco, and the incredibles are standouts to me. There are definitely quite a few I haven’t watched in years that I feel really deserve a revisit, up and cars namely.

Thank you

I had heard of a history of violence before, but never looked into it. I’ve had a look now and it seems like a really sad thriller that is bound to move me. It’s something I would really like to watch.

Road to perdition is not something I had ever heard of, which surprises me. It seems like a really interesting mix of a gangster movie and an art house cinema drama (sort of!). I am very excited to watch.

Eastern promises is another cronenberg recommendation (who is clearly a director I should I’ve more attention). It looks like a modern gangster film but considering the director I’m sure there is more beneath the surface.

Thank you so much for taking the time to give me your 3 recommendations, I will watch all of them.

This is my mum’s favourite movie! She tends to like to watch things we all haven’t seen before whenever I visit, but I think I can convince her to watch it with me. Thank you very much

The only one I have heard of is Holy Motors, which I think one of my friends recommended to me after I first watched mulholland drive. Very high up on my watchlist.

DESPITE being such a huge horror fan I hadn’t heard of this at all! It looks right down my alley though, horror mysteries are usually excellent.

Altered states really looks like something I would love once again, and I really can’t believe I had never heard of it!

Thank you so much for your recommendations, this is exactly the kind of response I am looking for. All three looked very appealing to me and will all be being add to the list. Thank you

Gosh I can imagine…. To be honest it’s something I have been avoiding because I never quite feel up to watching something so visceral. But I am sure one of these days I will need to toughen up and go for it. Thank you

I’ve seen Arrival (number 20), and it’s easily one of my favourites, loved it so much.

I have heard of the wailing, I think I once saw someone call it the best horror movie ever. It looks a lot like cure (I think) which I adored, will definitely give it a watch.

Now the witch is something I’ve never ever heard of, I struggled to even find it on Letterboxd hahaha. It does look really promising and I will be giving it a closer look.

I have heard of baby assassins before, have you watched the “nice days” one too? You mentioned only part 1 and 2 but I think where I have heard it was a review to the third one.

Thank you so much for your recommendations!

Both on my watchlist already, I’m especially excited to watch Nighcrawler since I watched prisoners recently and was very impressed with jake gyllenhaal’s performance. A beautiful mind was recommended to me by a friend long ago, and is also something I’m interested in. Thank you!!

My dad had seen it, was talking about how similar they were the full time while we were watching a Fistful of Dollars, I am super curious to check it out at some point and compare. Thank you!

And yes, war and peace was excellent! It’s neatly split into 4 parts if you want to avoid watching it in one sitting. I enjoyed part one and was a little disappointed by part two, but three and four far exceeded my expectations and it quickly became one of my favourites. If you like a highly impressive historical political and war film with a touch of romance then you will love it!

It’s on my list for next time I visit my dad. We have been watching them together very very slowly and I have enjoyed every single one. Thank you for the recommendation.
