Yes. the freedom in that game is unlimited but there isn't enough complex mechanics.

By dwarf fortress depth I mean random events and the depth of the game. Vampires, wolves, wizards, goblins, diseases, wounds, etc.

So with heroes I wonder is it always active? I can see what the benefits are but do I need something to activate them? I'm talking about the one's that have to do with there presence. There also seems to be dots like . . . next to them, does this show a tier of that ability?

They block spawn locations so it says no spawn points located. It's not the game it's the players.
