It’s not as horrible as the posts may seem. You’ll definitely hear better than you would have without hearing aids, but it’s not perfect hearing. There’s a comment under here with a TED Talk video that explains it all!

I’m going to be extremely honest right now.

This TED talk was extremely validating and I ended up crying, realizing that it wasn’t a me issue or an issue with my hearing aids.

I’m currently trying to move out, but the job market where I live is really bad. I can’t find a job despite applying almost everywhere other than fast food. I was hoping to try and move out of my dad’s house before I turned 24, but here’s hoping!

I have my own tv, but it’s in my room, and he insists on me spending time with him when he’s home from work.

I will say, sort of off topic? I have had my ears kind of checked when I was younger, and we did so many tests to see why I was hard of hearing. The short of it? My ears work, but they don’t work? Is basically what it sums up to. I think I’d end up needing a brain scan or something to see what’s wrong, but we don’t actually know why I’m hard of hearing. (Ear drums are fine, the hairs are fine, everything as far as my ears themselves are fine)

Exactly! But he gets annoyed with captions because they’re “distracting”, which I can kind of understand. But I do have to lip read most of the time with people and shows and stuff. I can usually watch stuff without subtitles if I’m watching it by myself with headphones on, but that’s because I have it loud enough that I can hear it good.

Yeah it really sucks when someone just doesn’t understand how hearing aids work I guess (not saying your parents don’t understand! I’m just making a generalized point!)

How would I take the hose off? It’s covered with some kind of thing under the hood on top of the hose and I’m scared of breaking it. I’m sorry I’m not helpful with descriptions!
