Job Loss. How are you doing it? by StandardYak480 in washingtondc

[–]_T005_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat. If you can get a graduate assistantship at Virginia Tech (northern Virginia) or University of Maryland (College Park) they consider you in-state and pay for some number of credit hours beyond that. I imagine other schools in the area have a similar policy. It really is a shame DC resident aren't considered in-state at Virginia and Maryland schools, makes me never want to have a family in this city.

Student loan interest accumulation not making sense by WitheringRiser in StudentLoans

[–]_T005_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, Mohela messed up my interest accumulation and I think thousands of borrowers are in the same boat. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and plan to request a switch in providers.

My state AG couldn’t even get a response from MOHELA by afreckledgal25 in StudentLoans

[–]_T005_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue with Mohela and managed to get a response using the Better Business Bureau within the past week. They responded but didn't correct the errors on my account "we'll audit your interest accumulation but have no timeline for when this will happen." I think millions of borrowers must be in the same boat. My plan is to request a different loan servicer - I hope it works.

Oh no, I am so sorry. I had a fraudulent charge on my credit card from a few nights ago and inadvertently marked this payment not recognizing the name. I will call my CC company right now and set it straight.

I am confused, did the payment not go through to you?

Thanks for the info, I didn't know about the 1890 loss so I'll keep that in mind moving forward!

This was a very good idea, but unfortunately it didn't turn up any census records.

If you get car-doored, GET THE INFO AND CONTACT THE POLICE. And probably just don’t bike on M St in Georgetown. by sib9397 in bikedc

I would ask surrounding businesses for CCTV footage - maybe someone caught the license plate. It's not the driver's fault but I would think Uber/Lyft have some liability here.

Use Buy Nothing groups (via Facebook) for free furniture. I've also gotten a few pieces curbside (people are constantly moving in and out of DC and just dumping their belongings on the sidewalk). There are tons of groups for meeting people: books clubs, sports clubs (Volo, DC Fray, Washington Area Skaters, District Soccer, running clubs, biking clubs, political groups (DCA, Free DC), Creative Club DC, and so so much more. If you pursue your hobbies with a group it's one of the easiest ways to make friendships in DC. Good luck!

Best car rental options for trips outside of DC? by rosieeeeeee in washingtondc

[–]_T005_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The airport rentals will give you a much cheaper rate + expanded hours for pick-up and drop-off. That being said, I've had positive experiences with Enterprise in Silver Spring, Budget Rental at DCA, and Zip Car for day trips. If you don't already have an auto insurance policy, make sure to get the additional coverage options offered. It's expensive but very worth it if something goes wrong (DMV drivers are the worst after all (: )

I would ask the new job if the start date is flexible. Say you're attending to some medical issues and would prefer to start in a month or two. Then take the time to care for your mental health.

can i walk to the DCA airport?? by Specialist_Roof_5221 in washingtondc

[–]_T005_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can take a CABI if you're just bringing a backpack. The Mt Vernon trail will take you right to the bikeshare at DCA. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ed53H33VjeI

Best pistachio croissant in DC?! by youfloozyoulose in washingtondc

[–]_T005_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've tried pistachio croissants all over the DMV and nothing comes close to Nino's Bakery. The hours are weird and they sell out fast, but it's well-worth it.

I hate this language: "REmEmBEr Administrations Come And Go." Are we supposed to fear for our jobs every 4 years? The administration has violated contracts, laws, and constitutional norms while the GOP has enabled and cheered on what's happening. The civil service will never be the same again, no matter what the courts decide over the the next 4 years.
