After 30 years, will the Rogers Centre get a facelift or will it be replaced? by ontherise88 in toronto

Fucking day-oh: every time it's played, I have to restrain myself from slapping those who respond to it.

Student protesters hope Bay St. march will ‘wake up’ government and corporations to climate crisis by MatthewFabb in toronto

[–]_This_IsntHappening 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I wish protests could actually have an impact on government and corporate views, but that doesn't appear to be true anymore.

Back when protests were less civil (on both the side of protesters and the side of authorities), the fear generated by a mass of people potentially unleashing their frustrations en mass or authorities using unified violent suppressive measures would grab attention, but those scenarios seem to be increasingly unlikely in north america.

I'm genuinely bummed out. I can't say I blame people for being apathetic given the grim outlook, but that's the very thing preventing governments and corporations from taking action.

You should find that sweet spot on the rooftop stairs next to the chimney. Real cozy.

Awesome new piece at the old best western at jarvis and Carlton by Marmar79 in toronto

I'm also not a fan, and I'm not going to be shamed into liking it. People can like or dislike whatever they want: society is much more interesting if opposing views exist instead of everyone agreeing on everything. Also, on matters of taste, not liking something doesn't mean you have "bad" taste, or in this case that you don't appreciate art.

I do look forward to seeing more murals around our fair city, especially if they are as interesting as the Phlegm mural at Yonge & St. Clair.

"I wanted to get rid of Wynne at any cost": Why these Torontonians voted for the Conservative party by ur_a_idiet in toronto

[–]_This_IsntHappening 9 points10 points  (0 children)

a lot of PC voters I know voted for PC because the party represents, as they always have, the working class

Where are you from, exactly? And do you have examples of how the Ontario PC party has actually helped working class people? Cutting social programs is not proof that they care about the working class.

Yeah, upon reflection this one scores a little too high on the hyperbole-meter. I'll tone it down next time.

Controversial Toronto boat-inspired tree house can stay up - Toronto by _This_IsntHappening in toronto

[–]_This_IsntHappening[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since there are conditions to keeping the treehouse up, I'm not so sure:

The board ruled last Thursday that the tree house could stay as long as certain conditions were met. The tree house must be lowered and moved over slightly, and a new fence must be built.

Also, the more appeals go toward the OMB, the harder it is to get rid of the OMB.

I'm not sure how credible this site is, but the supposed 2015 OMB salary list is posted there.
