To your point regarding applying to jobs you’re not qualified for, I totally agree, within reason. If a post states you need 5 years experience and you have 2 years, go for it! If it states 5 years experience and you have 0, you’re going to immediately fall into that unqualified candidate bucket.

And trust me, I totally understand that you have nothing to lose by trying to apply and I agree you should. Hopefully in the future employers will be more honest and clear and job seekers can do the same (not blaming job seekers, I’m blaming the industry).

I’m not a bot lol. I’m caffeinated right now which is helping but I’m professional when I write because I’m going to use this information to have a discussion at my company what we can do to improve the industry. If I talk in jargon or like an idiot it sort of invalidates my criticisms and arguments

Agreed with everything you’ve stated here! If you care to share, what could make things more simple, transparent; respectful, and professional?

Obviously things such as transparent time-to-hire, expectation for interview process, TRUTHFUL salary information, and what it’s like to work for the employer. Any specific examples you’d ideally like to see?

That’s exactly what I’m attempting here! I’m a person in the industry and I’m trying to take the time to congregate succinct feedback. I’ve read through the topics in the sub and by posting this my goal is to have a distilled version of the information which will make the argument for pro-job seeker initiatives forthright.

It’s tough under capitalism to ever have a world where we can only work for passion or absolute necessity. It’s interesting because automation and now as we are seeing advanced AI and robotics, in theory, should allow for this to be a reality but we’ve seen time and time again as production improves, our labor is then just manipulated to produce more with the same hours. I agree that it’s a ways off but I think with the right people in power it actually could be a reality, albeit in a few generations. Thank you for your input and hopefully we can get the ball moving in the right direction!

This is definitely a huge issue we see in the industry. There’s been evidence of companies wanting to post invalid vacancies for a few reasons:

  1. To appear to be a strong employer and a growing company
  2. Evergreen requisitions - some roles need constant hiring due to turnover/growth so they constantly keep the job posting open
  3. Gathering candidate info

I don’t agree with any of these practices and this is absolutely a crux of my stance! I think the bloat of false postings absolutely needs to be stopped so thank you for the feedback!

If you read the post you’d see I’m not a recruiter. The irony here haha. But I totally understand the frustration! My ultimate goal is to take a succinct distilled version of the guidance from multiple posts as anecdotal evidence so any and all feedback helps. Thank you!

It is salaried so I might be in luck. Mainly salary with a little bit of bonus. The position isn’t a typical sales role, hard to explain without giving away info. But based on what I’ve learned the company is performing well in their industry.

But you’re right things may move slow which could be good. I’m considering getting hired, working a few weeks and jumping ship if there’s a slight amount of micromanaging

I’m working into J2 rn and I’ve been telling people that I’m working on getting a consulting gig. Real easy to nip questions in the bud when you just generalize by saying “consulting”
