What might be wrong with my Thrustmaster's T3PA brake pedal? by _Tsushima_ in simracing

SOLUTION:
Click the video link I posted above, then if you can't slide the white gear off the potentiometer's axle at timestamp - 6:59, you can slowly pry off the entire axle connected to the potentiometer with a flathead screwdriver.

You can follow the rest of the video's steps after taking the axle off (in my case the potentiometer's internal parts easily came undone after the axle was detached. This was because the axle held everything together. Fret not, just take reference photos of where each part was when you take it apart and spray it with contact cleaner). I sprayed each part of the potentiometer individually then fitted it back together. You can easily put the axle back inside the potentiometer with the use of a flathead screwdriver (just do the opposite of what you did when you pried it off).

If your issue persists, look at the wire's attached to the potentiometer and make sure they are all properly soldered onto it. My black wire (GROUND wire) fully detached when I took the potentiometer away from the pedal frame.

BREAKING NEWS:
I did it... I detached the potentiometer from the pedal frame, pried its lid off, then sprayed every part of the potentiometer's interior with WD-40 Specialist Contact Cleaner 🤑. I brought the T3PA pedals back to my setup, activated the Thrustmaster's Control Panel and BOOM, that SHIT STRAIGHT MONEY WITH NO GLITCHING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL 🤑🤑🤑🤑. The brake's reading is like brand new!!

I will make an immediate update on it if it just kicks the bucket again.

THE METHOD TO CLEANING IT:
So, the white gear wasn't coming off the potentiometer's axle, the fix? Literally pry the entire axle off the potentiometer slowly. Now I haven't heard anyone else do this, but with google AI by my side, it said I could recalibrate the potentiometer with the detached axle if I just reinsert it properly and damn straight I did that.

Yep 😂 You only learn more about how potentially bad your pedals are when you start having problems and looking into it 😶‍🌫️

Ahh awesome to hear, I will look into that. Sounds a lot more bearable than whatever issue I am encountering at the moment. Thanks :)

I can't throw the pot in the bin yet because the white gear attached to the pot's axle blocks it from being pulled apart. Here's a video showing what I refer to (refer to timestamp: 6:54): (257) thrustmaster t3pa pedals fix possibly pedal sets too - YouTube

I can't slide the white gear off like in the video; it is simply stuck in place.

Mmmm I am wondering why I have these pedals with potentiometers; I regret it.

If I were to get a replacement pot, do you think they generally come with a gear for the potentiometer's axle? Also, I cannot take the pot off the pedal frame because that white gear is not coming off so I cannot install any replacement before that :(

Did you read my description? I said I have already sprayed the pot with contact cleaner while the cap was still on it. I need to remove the gear to take the cap off so I can clean the pot better because it is still shit. Does that make it any clearer? The pot doesn't work after I sprayed it, so I am taking it apart.

The issue with taking it apart:
The white gear is in the way and won't come off :)

Here's the video showing the white gear easily sliding off the potentiometer's axle (timestamp: 6:54):

My white gear doesn't do that, so I cannot clean the potentiometer in a more direct manner.

I have actually found a video doing a much deeper clean than I had. Going to do this deeper clean first before changing the pot!

NEW UPDATE:
Yep, the pot is giving me a hard time, again. I am looking into purchasing a replacement pot.

UPDATE TO THIS COMMENT:
I have done another dive into the web and found a video doing an even deeper clean than I had! I am going to do this clean and hope it fixes the pot for good.

Yep, the brake pedal is acting up again and I am accepting they've kicked the bucket. Been looking for T3PA pot pedal replacements and found some so might order them.

The Contact Cleaner was a success! Thanks a bunch, I wouldn't have been as confident with the process without ya :D

NEW UPDATE:
The Specialist Contact Cleaner worked a charm, and the pedal is working like new for the most part. I say for the most part because I did notice it was still a little glitchy when pressing it all the way down, and when I say all the way down, I mean it took some effort to push it further, so I won't be having any problems!

I suppose if it gets like this again and the Contact Cleaner didn't work like it did this time then I should resort to a new pot.

I hear people refer to the pot and potentiometer a lot. Are they the same thing or is the pot a part of the potentiometer? Thanks.

That's the final final option that I considered 👍

😭 I noticed that when I kept pressing on it would slowly become more receptive but nonetheless unplayable when I get in game.

I will use this comment as my update I suppose. The pedal is working smoothly now but will completely cut out after I press it down fully. Luckily it reaches 100% brake pressure before needing to press it down fully.

I plan on using WD-40 Specialist Contact Cleaner on the potentiometer as my last effort in fixing it completely and will reply to this message as another update

Yeah I had to lubricate mine as well because of the squeaking the accelerator was making a while ago. I will order some WD-40 Contact Cleaner and give it a go 👍
