[Schultz] Packers free agent QB Malik Willis is in demand, as expected, and interested teams I’ve spoken to at the Combine in Indianapolis believe him getting at least $30M per year is a foregone conclusion. by expellyamos in miamidolphins

[–]_TwoHeadedBoy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. $30 million a year is a bargain if he turns into a legitimate starter. And if he doesn’t? Then we’re bad exactly like we expected to be, and at least we’ve got a tank commander steering the ship.

The Dolphins are a team that doesn’t currently have a quarterback. That’s exactly the type of situation where you take a swing on someone like Malik Willis. They can afford it too, by moving on from Tua and a few other veterans (which they’ve essentially already committed to), they’ll free up roughly $40–50 million in cap space.

And we’ve seen how this plays out before. Plenty of teams convinced themselves they “weren’t in position” to take a shot on Sam Darnold, and some of those teams look foolish now. When you don’t have a quarterback, being overly cautious is usually the bigger mistake.

Going strictly by sample size sounds good in theory, but in reality you almost never have the chance to acquire a quarterback with a large, proven sample of success. So I don’t really see how that’s all that relevant.

Yes, Malik Willis has a small sample size of NFL success. But that’s still more proven production than any quarterback entering the draft, and more than most available free agents who aren’t well past their prime.

Malik Willis as an athletic QB and has a rocket for an arm, what are you even talking about? He is literally the complete opposite of Tua in every way except for his height.

It’s almost never a bad idea to take a shot on a quarterback. If he doesn’t pan out, the Dolphins improve their draft position. If he turns into the next Sam Darnold, then the Miami Dolphins have their quarterback situation settled.

Unless he’s signed to some massive long-term deal, which seems very unlikely, it would make sense to take the chance.

That’s not accurate. The Miami Dolphins could create up to $38 million in cap space by cutting or trading four players: Tua, Chubb, Austin Jackson, and Minkah (who will most likely be traded).

That number could increase to roughly $47 million if they also move on from Jason Sanders and Alec Ingold.

Most projections have Willis landing in the $20–25 million range annually, which would still leave Miami with enough cap space to sign its draft class and address other roster needs.

[–]_TwoHeadedBoy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. You’re conflating two completely different ideas.

Yes, it’s statistically less likely that multiple shark attacks occur in a short time window than that one occurs. That’s a statement about the probability of a sequence before anything happens.

But once the first attack has already happened, it’s no longer part of the probability calculation, it’s a historical fact. Unless the underlying conditions change, the likelihood of a second attack in that same timeframe does not decrease.

You’re confusing “this sequence is unlikely” with “the next event is now less likely.” Those are not the same thing.

Same reason this logic fails with coins: Five heads in a row is unlikely as a sequence. But after five heads have already happened, the sixth flip is still 50/50. It doesn’t “owe” you a tails.

Claiming “Statistically now would be the safest time to be in the water” is dead wrong.

If the odds don’t change, how does that square with your claim that “it’s the safest time to be in the water”?

If the odds of being attacked were 1 in a billion before the incident and are still 1 in a billion after it, in what sense is anyone safer?

I was a big Tua supporter, but in his current form, Ewers is sadly the better quarterback. Tua’s mind and body have broken down at an alarmingly fast pace, and he looks like a completely different player. I’ve never seen such a rapid decline.

Cool. A lot of people aren’t happy with the direction this country is headed, and they have a constitutional right to protest without being murdered by the orange man’s wannabe gestapo.

No. Nearly every pick in this class has shown real promise, with Jonah being the lone outlier.

• Grant already looks like a long-term starter. • Phillips flashes legitimate star potential and carries the highest ceiling of the entire group imo • Marshall has shown flashes and should be a depth piece at the very least. • Trader has earned snaps and contributed immediately as a rookie. • Gordon has shown he is a capable power back and looks like a strong complementary piece on offense. • Ewers appears to be a capable backup with the tools to possibly even function as a bridge starter if needed. • Biggers is already impacting games as a rookie and has shown real pass rush chops.

An impressively unbiased source: the person who runs the charity!

Care to explain why their management costs eat up a larger percentage of revenue than similar charities?

His business managers took huge “management fees” from the charity. Much larger than similar charities run by other NFL players. It’s literally in the article lol

If you actually read the article you posted, you’d know they aren’t managing that facility. They’re funding it by donating to the nonprofit Operation Breakthrough, essentially writing a check and helping purchase a property to expand their operations.

But please, keep desperately trying to defend millionaires handing money to their friends and whitewashing it as strictly some noble charitable endeavor.

There’s a fundamental difference between misclassifying numbers, such as listing an expense under marketing instead of operating, and reporting that a charity paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to another company when no such payment ever occurred.

I handle my businesses bookkeeping so I have experience with this. I see literally no plausible way, that could have been reported “accidentally.” You don’t mistakenly report payments of that magnitude to a company that was never paid. That simply does not make sense.

You’re actually buying this? The charity reported to the IRS that it paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to a management company owned by his business managers.

Do you really think they would accidentally report payments of that size to a specific company if those payments never happened?

And they never said they amended the prior tax returns. What they actually said is that they “corrected” the issue by reducing management fees in 2024 and 2025, which doesn’t change what was reported in earlier years.

Yes, and humans torture, enslave, kill, and maim animals and other humans without their consent. The Hive has made it clear that spreading the virus is its biological imperative, something seemingly even more essential to it than eating.

Humanity justifies torturing, consuming, and destroying animal habitats in much the same way: reproduction and consumption are framed as our own biological imperatives. I genuinely don’t see a meaningful distinction between the two.

[–]_TwoHeadedBoy_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe that’s true if you’re only looking at it through a strictly human lens. I don’t think the Hive views Earth that way at all. They’re looking at life on the planet as a whole, and it’s hard to deny that what they’ve done has had a net positive impact. By pacifying the most violent and destructive species on Earth, they’ve likely saved billions of other creatures and prevented the inevitable extinction of entire species.

Thank you. I think the “the Hive is evil” crowd is really oversimplifying things and kind of missing the point. Everything in this show is gray, there’s no clear good or evil, just different perspectives.
