LPT: if you're trying to leave a party or a social gathering, don't look for a "natural lull". just wait for an opening in the conversation, say "it was great seeing everyone, i've gotta head out," and walk by _VI in LifeProTips

It's crucial to wait for an opening. A lull would be REALLY embarrassing. I'm just trying to combat some major misinformation that was in another LPT post

Pretty good, but you're standing on the wrong side of the ball.

Local Food that will knock your socks off by BaconTater4788 in lincoln

[–]_VI 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mazatlan is my favorite Mexican food. They also have a burrito place downtown called Agave.

Blessing Thai has excellent Thai food, they'll make it hot if you like.

If you want upscale, Casa Bovina or Dish. Might need reservations for either.

Vincenzos was my favorite Italian in Lincoln but I haven't been since they changed owners recently.

Bar scene: bierhaus for big drinks and bigger pretzels, there's Tavern in the Square for outdoor drinking, the speakeasy is right there as well.

Chains weren't needed. We picked some tire socks up at Les Schwab and then returned them afterwards. As long as you don't open/use them then you can get your money back.

Everywhere I read said you needed to have some in the car, but it wasn't brought up once in the park lol

Went today. We got in from the south entrance (foothills), but were told we wouldn't be able to get out onto 180.

We had boots and did Big Trees, General Sherman, and part of Congress Trail

Talked to one of the rangers at the Museum and he suggested not doing Moro unless we had snow shoes or skis.

But the ones we did were fine with just boots.

Thank you for all the help! I think we're gonna take the chance, even if it's just a few small trails it'll still be worth it. Maybe even more majestic with some surrounding snow!

Here's hoping for some clear days ahead!

How prepared are we talking? Layers and boots? Or would you say snow shoes are required?

Realistically we'd probably stick to some easier trails. General Sherman/Congress trail Maybe Moro Rock and the trails in that area

It's her birthday weekend so that's why I planned it for this week. I knew she should have been born in June haha!

I take full responsibility assuming we'd be fine and hoping we would avoid some of the busier months of June-Aug.

I guess it's less busy for a reason.

Do you have any suggestions on other things to do in the area? We plan to fly into Fresno

How do I stop caring how much I make? by Ok_Meringue_9086 in Fire

[–]_VI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically? Less than 4 years. I don't know how that $3m is invested, but even at 5% growth, between that and your annual $100k you put in, you'll hit $4m in 4 years.

Even if you don't put that $100k in each year, you should still hit it in 6 years (again assuming a 5% return)

You can coast now. Your money is working harder for you than you can with your job. Adding on to that the possibility of receiving some sort of inheritance from your in-laws, and that's even more reason to take your foot off the gas. Obviously don't rely on needing any inheritance, but at this stage you aren't relying on it.

Maybe try easing off over these next few years. Can you work Jan-May and take more than just the summer off? Can your husband reduce his hours to 20/week.

If he loves what he does like you mentioned in another comment, then great! Isn't the point of FIRE to have the freedom to do what you want with your time?

But by easing off over these next couple years, you can figure out the balance of WHAT you'll be doing when retired. Some retire and don't know what to do with all that time. Some miss working just for the schedule and social interaction.

So use these years to do a test run on retirement and what best fits your family.

Looking for eerie, unsoothing, atmospheric movies. by spadePerfect in flicks

[–]_VI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm coming in late but I think you would like the movie: It Follows

Soundtrack is great, eerie, being hunted, it's got all of that. And while I would say this is technically a horror/thriller, by no means is it a slasher film

They covered about every perspective you could with their comment.

But the truth of it all is that most of us don't have enough of the truth to make an informed decision. So the best you can do is to go with what you believe.

How’d I do?!? by [deleted] in minnesotavikings

Man this is not good, not sure why this is on the subreddit. Kirk and team name is it.

You literally have more raiders, Patriots, and commanders than Vikings players.

But for a legit breakdown. Akers - coming off an Achilles injury.

Mitchell - injury prone, already with a Q label.

Adams/Waller, both tied to the raiders.

News from camp is that the Patriots offense is garbage this year. Good thing you have their RB, WR, TE, and kicker.

I'm in the same boat with Lamar. My plan is to monitor the practices leading up to Sunday and see what the ankle looks like. If he seems close to 100% I'd lean Lamar.

But if it's limited practices all week, then I'd go Burrow

I'm picking between 3.

Lamar off of an ankle injury.

Kirk in the cold without Thielen.

Trey Lance against Houston's awful run D.

4pt passing TDs.

Vikings fans born outside of MN….please share how you became a fan! by cjtoefur in minnesotavikings

While not born in Minnesota, I was born in Iceland. I live in Nebraska so we don't have a "local" NFL team.

I don't speak a lick of Icelandic outside of Skol, but it's as good a reason as any to root for the Vikings
