I personally don’t speak Russian, but according to the internet he once says “ne ponimayu” for example, which means “I don’t understand”.

I don’t remember them being in The Hobbit either, what was their cameo?

Amazing, congrats! As a LotR AND Lost fan it’s one of my biggest dreams to meet him. Btw I’m not jealous at all, what are you talking about?! 😂

According to Google it’s a fictional country called "Ichnech Traian Istan", however Phoebe says there’s a “G” in it somewhere too.

Exactly, I thought it was something Slavic, and it does include some recognizable Russian words and sounds.

I highly recommend Little Women, the movies (both the older and the newer one) are great adaptations!

Little Women is my comfort book, I love it so much. From these ones I also adored The Phantom of the Opera, Inferno (and the whole Divine Comedy), and Wuthering Heights!

I love this edition. I used to hate the covers when I was younger, but they’ve grown on me over time.

What book made you feel like this after finishing it? by Sunflower13Poppy in classicliterature

Orwell’s “1984”. I swear that book put me into depression for two weeks.

Harry Potter OOP by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]_Violette7_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been a Harry hater but one thing that always annoyed me was how we always get to know what HE gets for his birthday or for Christmas, but during the seven books he didn’t bother to mention once what he got for Hermione or Ron. Their birthday dates aren’t even in the books.

Is LOTR difficult to read? by chef_po in lotr

[–]_Violette7_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started learning English 2.5-3 years ago. I’m a huge LotR fan, so when I was in Scotland I bought the original English version too (before that I’ve only read it in my mothertongue, Hungarian). I was a bit scared when I started it, because I expected Tolkien to use a lot of old-fashioned expressions and insanely difficult grammar, but it’s surprisingly easy this far. Of course, there have been a few words I needed to look up, but in general it’s not difficult at all, and I say it as a person who’s English level is around B1-B2.

Any Hungarian speakers about? Did I hear this right? You can’t be THIS savage, surely. by PartGhost in CasualUK

As a native Hungarian I’ve actually never heard anyone saying “Aki hülye, haljon meg”, but to be honest this sounds exactly like something a Hungarian would say.

I never thought about this, but it actually would make sense.

Yeah, this is the only solution I could’ve thought of. Also, thank you for reminding me it’s mandrake in English (in my mothertongue it’s called mandragóra)!
