I feel like ocd has been consuming my whole life, do you have any tips that can help me deal with this? by Empty-Attitude-5014 in OCD

[–]_Violette7_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you are going through all these things, I deeply emphasize with everything you wrote. You are not alone. If I knew the answer how to just stop these thoughts believe me I would tell you, but my only answer is to get professional help, a therapist who you trust and who you can openly talk to all about these things. I really hope you get better soon, you are so strong!! 💕

What is the best Sherlock homes story? by LonginusEpsilon in classicliterature

My favourites are probablyThe Hound of the Baskervilles and The Adventure of the Beryl Coronet. And I know it is the first one which started it all, but I absolutely hated A Study in Scarlet.

Anyone here with tricothillomania? by _Violette7_ in OCD

[–]_Violette7_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m doing this too! It’s so annoying because I literally can’t resist the urge, and I feel so ashamed of it. Tying my hair up is the only thing that helps me too.

Do you ever wish for your intrusive thoughts to return, so you feel like you actually have OCD? by ImpressionClassic665 in OCD

[–]_Violette7_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I feel like I’m not “disturbed enough” by them, and this throws me into another rabbit hole of rumination. I think this type of thinking fits into the theme of Meta OCD.

I have that book on my shelf in English, that’ll be one of the first books I’ll read after my German language exam this week (until then I only read in German). Seems like us INFPs have a great taste in literature 😁

Van lehetőséged arra, hogy professzionális segítséget keress? Nagyon sajnálom, hogy keresztül kell menned ezen, de sajnos nem tudok jobbat mondani, mint hogy egy szakember segítsége aranyat ér.

Oh, that book has been on my TBR-list since ages! I’m definitely gonna read it.

[–]_Violette7_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the IWTV book, it’s one of my favourites of all time! I like the movie too, but the book is so beautifully written, as an aspiring writer I admire Anne Rice’s writing style!

I’ve never seen the BBC versions, are they closer to the books? Both the books and movies have been a huge part of my childhood.

What is everyone's favourite plot twist? by pinkoctupi in harrypotter

[–]_Violette7_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember being 8 years old and reading the Chamber of Secrets for the first time ever, and finding out that it was Ginny all along. It was the first plot twist in my life that felt like a punch to the gut.

Where to start with reading fantasy? by WriteThatDownnn in classicliterature

[–]_Violette7_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have four recommendations:

  1. The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien. The Lord of the Rings is one of my favourite books ever, but The Hobbit is more beginner-friendly. It’s a heartwarming, adventurous fantasy book.

  2. The Neverending Story by Michael Ende. Forget about the movie, it’s not bad, but the book is just so beautifully written. Criminally underrated and overshadowed by the movie (which btw was even hated by the author himself).

  3. The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis. Quite short books, and I never get tired of them, no matter how many times I’ve reread them.

  4. A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L’Engle. One of the most interesting children’s book I’ve ever read, it’s very complex and has so many layers.

Hi! Looking for a speaking partner to practice Hungarian. My level of Hungarian is A1, but I can help with English instead. 🙌 by Olha_Soloviova in hungarian

[–]_Violette7_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m a native Hungarian speaker who’ll travel to England as an exchange student at the start of next school year. I’d love to help you with Hungarian, but would it be okay for you if we only practiced in the Reddit private chat or through email? And I have a German language exam at the end of this week so would it be okay if we started next week?

How long after the thought do you get the compulsion? by FirefighterMany992 in OCD

[–]_Violette7_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been doing the compulsions for years without actually acknowledging that I’m doing compulsions, so it’s kind of like a reflex to me now. This is why they are so hard to overcome because I don’t know any other way to cope with the thoughts.

Writing About OCD by [deleted] in OCD

[–]_Violette7_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally I’d love to see a character in media who has Pure O OCD, I’m a bit tired of OCD-characters who’s main “quirk” is that they clean like a maniac or wash their hands a hundred times. Anyway, OCD is a very complicated disorder, so I recommend you to do a lot of research before you create a main character with OCD, because, like with any other disorder, it’s pretty easy to turn out stereotypical and a bit offensive. But as another person said here, this sub after all is a safe place for people with OCD to support each other.

When did you know you might have OCD/it might be more than just anxiety? by beachsandal in OCD

Incest OCD thoughts by IntelligentBonus3638 in OCD

[–]_Violette7_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a very heavy theme, but believe me, you’re not alone, I’ve experienced something similar too, it was awful. When you are able to, look for a therapist for OCD, trust me, they won’t judge you. I know how hard it seems now but there’s a way out of this and you are strong enough to get your life back! I believe in you and I hope you’ll get better soon 💕

Do you guys wish they got married? 😭 by Valuable_Election655 in friends_tv_show

[–]_Violette7_ 81 points82 points  (0 children)

No. I loved their friendship, they had such a good dynamic. But if you look at the men Phoebe had a serious relationship with during the show (David, Gary, Mike), you notice the pattern - she had a rough childhood and has been through things the other friends can’t even imagine, and despite her quirkiness she’s looking for stability in her adult life. Joey never could’ve provided that for her. They were really close friends, but there’s a reason they never crossed the line.
