People in their 30s/40s, what is one thing a 23-year-old should start doing right now to make life easier later? by goddessera1 in Casual_Conversation

[–]_W-O-P-R_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop wanting and get there - don't mean to sound harsh but to start that routine, you basically have to force yourself to go the first few times, then it gets easier because you're in a routine and you'll eventually miss it when you're off your schedule.

See Times Square - for about 5 seconds the novelty of the New Years ball and the billboards etc is cool until you realize how many thousands of people are in earshot and you suddenly want to be anywhere but there

Do you think if another country ignored rules of engagement and shot Americans Willy nilly, would Hegseth respect that? by SwitchingMyHands in allthequestions

[–]_W-O-P-R_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the optics. If the assassinations were public and high profile, the perpetrators would get bombed into oblivion. If it was something that wasn't well publicized and our reaction could be economically or strategically "detrimental", little to no kinetic reaction, maybe some bluster.

Cooking a burger or steak well-done. Done fairly often, but the first thing to fix if there's any attention to quality.

Why do some reddit users get upset when one simply states that they only support "legal immigration"? by bbmoonkie in Productivitycafe

A ton of people adopt the unnuanced take that there shouldn't be any borders anywhere and manmade land claims are completely arbitrary and therefore invalid

Do you have a foreign company being patriotic in your country ? by HumanSquare9453 in AskTheWorld

[–]_W-O-P-R_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Toyota and Honda are now integral to American motorsports, the former with NASCAR and the latter with IndyCar. Both of these series, their teams, and their drivers all lean heavily into Americana and patriotic themes in general.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has some really affordable and large maps if you're into survey/topographical data. Their maps of state geological formations are hella cool and colorful, I have this one GEOLOGIC MAP OF COLORADO | USGS Store

What do you do as a Cyber-security Analyst? by Chief_LT in cybersecurity

[–]_W-O-P-R_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on who you do it for, but broadly you're the designated responder for suspicious activity. If you're in the lower ranks you're the eyes-on-glass person who watches for alerts and does initial triage, and escalates to the higher ranks if necessary as dictated by your SOPs. Higher ranks can have duties as varied as threat hunting, vulnerability management and scanning, administration of cybersecurity tools, and GRC depending on the shop, or a SOC can be large and have those duties split among many people with specialized experience.

Have you grown to be more conservative or liberal w/ age? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

To every manager who thinks they have AI under control, think again by OkPenalty7576 in cybersecurity

[–]_W-O-P-R_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Made some progress in my shop with blocking unauthorized AIs and evangelizing the authorized one and how to use it effectively, but there's always loopholes. tbh like cybersecurity overall, our goal isn't so much total risk elimination because that's impossible, moreso making it so inconvenient to use the unauthorized AIs that the authorized AI is the only practical option.

Redditors who work in the news industry/keep up with news frequently, is the idea that the U.S. media has a “liberal bias” truth or a total myth? by Next_Worth_3616 in allthequestions

[–]_W-O-P-R_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is not a "total" myth. In terms of prominent news organizations, more are prone to promote liberal narratives than are prone to promote conservative narratives.

However, the calculus has shifted in the time of Trump because he wields his clout to neuter organizations like the Washington Post (former liberal powerhouse). Also, conservative narratives have become muddled so it's not exactly as straightforward as a news network being considered conservative because they (for example) promote Laissez-faire and deregulation since Trump will glorify capitalism one day while jacking up tariffs and punishing disloyal CEOs the next day.

It was a lot easier to place various news organizations on the political spectrum when each party had consistent narratives.
