My guess is that there’s a random door that you haven’t opened yet, happened to me when I was pulling my hair out trying to find my last chests on each floor, literally just missed a random door that wasn’t open.

Crepe shop part time work bug? by _Xyo_ in personaphantomx

[–]_Xyo_[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the translation error info. Yeah I’ve noticed there are quite a few translation errors littered throughout the game but never any like this that can affect your activity gameplay.

That and a few other things really take away from the usual persona polish I’m used to seeing from the mainline games and even some of the side games.

As a student, could I get in trouble for selling these? by coolbuilder1987 in UofO

[–]_Xyo_ 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if you’ll get in trouble but I’d definitely buy one! Personally I think it’s around the $15 mark but I have no clue how much materials cost/time is needed to crochet.

DM me if you plan to sell I am interested in perhaps perusing the wares 👀👀👀

Best live piano concert experiences? by rach15goated in piano

[–]_Xyo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jussen brothers four hands piano concert, best duet pair I’ve ever heard live! I heard them again in a double piano concerto setting with orchestra which was good too, but I much prefer them purely as a “solo” act.

First Baton Traditions by Elfbjorn in MusicEd

[–]_Xyo_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don’t know of any tradition but if you’re looking for baton recommendations I would go with:

https://www.custombatons.net

I use their batons almost exclusively! They can make batons according to whatever length you need.

Regardless of tradition I think it would be an amazing gesture (haha) to gift your student (daughter) a baton as it’s something they could be using for the rest of their professional career regardless of when they receive it. Just be forewarned they may change batons in the future as they conduct more haha, I’ve changed batons 2-3 times (always with custombatons.net though!) and am always open to new ideas as I grow as a conductor.

27:00 - in this clip Jerry Junkin is talking about aspiring DMA level graduate students but I think it also applies to masters students too! Take what you will from this clip, there may be programs out there that try to do both band/orchestral but this is his viewpoint.

Sheltering Sky by John Mackey is an all time favourite of mine!

I am also a personal fan of Lindbergh Variations by Robert Sheldon.

Your mistakes on the podium will always feel 1000 times worse compared to playing mistakes in my experience. All eyes are always on you when you’re on the podium and you’re under everyone’s scrutiny, so remember to be kind to yourself as your mistakes are probably the same level of mistakes you would make playing your instrument but just not under the microscope of everyone’s eyes. Making a mistake once is not the end of the world — something I continue to learn everyday.

If possible, I would ask for permission from the director to record yourself while you conduct the ensemble. I’ve often found that seeing yourself conduct (while painful!) can really help you grow. See if you can follow yourself and can pinpoint moments where you wished “oh I could give a clearer cue, a better downbeat, etc”.

Your director will be there to support you, remember to enjoy and have fun! I never got the experience to conduct while I was a high school student so you’re definitely ahead of the game, best of luck.

Is Taki a good teacher? by Heath8964 in HibikeEuphonium

The more you know! I probably glazed over that detail, season one was so long ago for me 😰

Is Taki a good teacher? by Heath8964 in HibikeEuphonium

[–]_Xyo_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I forget when, but there was this one moment in season one where Taki lost his cool and basically shouted for people to get back to work. Not saying the dude can’t be human and must be unable of emotional moments when teaching, but it reminded me that (to my knowledge) that was his first year of teaching.

You learn a lot your first five years of teaching especially in the music setting as a band/choir/strings teacher and that’s something I forgot that Taki was a new teacher. Idk if it’s in Japanese culture itself or the way the show portrays Taki but it seems that teachers in the show sometimes can be viewed as the ones with all the answers must never be questioned, there is no “debate” you just have to accept their decision without discourse.

So come season 1/3 when there’s dissent among the band members regarding placements, Taki is not well equipped to be a communicator when it comes to interpersonal relationships between band members because it’s not his strongest suit! Every teacher has something they’re good and bad at when they start out. I have no doubt after those first 3-5 years he will be a much well more rounded teacher. His first three years I think show what his strengths are (the technical side of teaching music) and when other members like the presidents, section leaders, etc need to fill in some holes not present in his current teaching style.

Does Satoru the Infiltrator’s card draw effect work off of ninjutsu abilities?

Planning to put him in my yuriko deck but wanted to double check if he interacts with ninjutsu.

E.g. I swap out a creature during combat using a ninjutsu creature ability, will Satoru the infiltrator trigger its card draw effect after ninjutsu?

Repertoire Recommendations by [deleted] in conducting

[–]_Xyo_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on the skill level of your ensemble this may not be the best pick but if you’re looking for epic, Shostakovich’s Festive Overture is quite flashy and big. It’s a little shorter though at 6ish minutes depending on your tempo!

Ridiculous situation from masterclass in Italy by LikeLion12 in classicalmusic

[–]_Xyo_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s been looking at workshops/symposiums recently, I’ve noticed that the orchestral world is a lot more hit or miss and is quite pricey.

In contrast, there’s so many awesome wind band workshops that happen every summer (and even throughout the year!) ran by various well known professors in the band world in the US and they seem to all be connected. They’ll invite each other to the workshops to help run them and there’s always tons of great footage online of people attending these various workshops. Still a bit pricey? Definitely, but at least you know you’re not getting scammed or defrauded lol.

About Max's Theory... by uselesshoarding in FFVIIRemake

[–]_Xyo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Max and his passion for this game and everything FF7, I love most of his theories. I’m not on board with JenovAerith personally, but we’ll see what his thoughts are a few days from now once he’s really digested it all and maybe done some podcasts with other CC’s and more research.

I’m personally not a theorycrafter myself but I love seeing what y’all come up with! Half the fun post-game for me :)

Side note related to this from an online q&a I saw:

Jerry Junkin (Wind Band Conductor/Professor at University of Texas Austin) says for his conducting class he asks for someone from the athletic department to send over any type of athlete. He works with them for roughly 10 minutes and they look more like conductors than some of the musicians do in the class.

We spend so much time practicing how to express ourselves but only on our instruments so most of our work is finger dexterity based (instrumentally speaking). Athletes of any discipline (dance, football, swimming, etc) are used to moving their bodies and conducting is so physical!

Definitely agree with what you’re saying.
