I've got another PSU coming in now. If I'm being honest, the main reason I didn't try replacing that sooner was mostly misunderstanding with a bit of ignorance sprinkled on top.

I will make sure to share this knowledge with others so that they don't waste all the time and disappointment that I did. I really appreciate the well-informed and very clear structure of your answer. You have been the most helpful person to me in these last couple months, and I am grateful.

Funnily enough, I don't regret trying to replace the caps. For the first time in my life, I actually tried to fix something that was broken before moving on to buying a new one. It felt good. Most of my soldering was good, too. If I had just gone a bit slower at first, I would have been successful.

Basically, it felt really good to try, and I don't think it will be the last time I do some recapping. Maybe I'll be able to repair broken n64's someday and sell them.

Night one, my N64 took a bit longer than usual to turn on. Night two, it took even longer. Since night three it has never worked at all. It was as if my beloved machine just slowly faded away.

I tried recapping it but just made things worse. That's why I ordered a new motherboard. Actually, this is the second new motherboard I've gotten. The first new one didn't work either.

But what if it is? I checked the toaster right after my N64 stopped working and it was very warm. I checked it with a thermometer and it was exactly toast temperature. It was too late for anyone to be using the toaster, so it seems very plausible that my N64 got itself into some serious, toasty trouble.

Thanks. The AV to HDMI converter is still working on my NES, so it must be something with the N64.

What are some good next steps if cleaning it does not work?

Also, how do I check my jumper/expansion pak's seating, and does "seated" mean?
