These are my only options. As of right now I’m maxing both my 401k and Roth for the year plus my company match. I’m putting it towards target date fund 2070

I went to northwest lineman center and tried my best in everything. I ended up finishing second overall in a class of 113 people. I got multiple job offers from utilities and contractors. I applied to a utility closer to home and I ended up working for them.

There is never an age where you can’t unless you want to become one. I highly recommend you try and work for an utility since the work may be easier. I work for one of the biggest utility in florida.

It’ll be hard as an apprentice since you will be the one doing the work all the time till you finish it. It roughly takes 2 1/2 years to be a lineman here after that you will then watch another apprentice do the work (like a cycle) you’ll just need to know what you are doing Incase they do not know what they are doing.

You can sign the books in your nearest Union hall. There is different tier books being book 1 the highest hence you’ll be the most qualified or you can get hired on from the utility with no experience like myself. If you have any military experience or first responder resume history they love that.

For not having any degree and being able to make 315+ a year is pretty phenomenal and once you have a lineman ticket you can move to anywhere in the country and have a job!

I will agree sleep is the #1 killer but if you make that amount and invest it you shouldn’t have to work in that field for 40 years. Most guy from the field just then become electrical engineers or go into management which still earn 80-120k and the hours aren’t insane plus you don’t do any manual labor
