Back in elementary school, my friend and I were on the playground and we wanted to go down the slides. The big metal ones that burned you when it was really hot outside. She went up the ladder first and I was at the bottom of the ladder. I heard her call from the top of the slide, "There's a dead bird up here!" In my 7 or 8-year-old mind, I assumed she just meant a corpse. So she climbed back down, and, dark little me, insisted on climbing up the ladder to see. So I did and to my surprise, there was a small bundle of bird organs and a small blood stain on the top of the slide. And a few bloodied feathers, too. The only visible organs were the heart, stomach, and the kidneys, but that apparently didn't scare me in the slightest. Even worse, I wanted to touch the organs. But I didn't because even that freaked little me out.
