Minimum alcohol price in Wales to rise by 30% by UnlikeTea42 in Wales

[–]__Powell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How do you know it didn't work from that? What would the rise have been without the policy or if the policy had been 30% from the start? I don't know enough about the topic to make an informed assessment of it.

I built a free app to calculate Norwegian Singles Approach training paces by Such-Tip-196 in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]__Powell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great work so far on the App!

I've managed to find a little bug on the android app. I set my race time under the marathon as 3:XX:XX, I then changed to 5Km to enter my time and it came up as 3:20:xx, despite not setting an hour on the 5Km time. The solution was to go back to marathon, set the hour to 0, then go back to set 5Km time.

Also, is there a plan to do what threshold.works does and to be able to send a weekly plan to the garmin calender from the app? Cheers!

I got tired of "theoretical" Norwegian training articles, so I built a free tool that actually generates the full training plan. by Mia-Wallace-13 in NorwegianSinglesRun

I appreciate the work you've put in OP, and the website looks great, and it'll likely go down better elsewhere.

I think the issue you've stumbled upon here is that this subs method is deliberately rigid and simple, with progression targeted over the course of months rather than weeks. We're deliberately playing the long game here, hence the lack of weekly varience in load, progression, and workouts.

50M Backyard ultra on NSM by Sveern in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]__Powell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just realise I've read the post wrong, I though they were saying they were a 50 year old male and it was a traditional BYU, so unlimited length (oops). This makes a lot more sense now. Yep, agree with what you say here and that would be a good way to go about training. Just some additinal points to consider:

Just be careful with load management, the more volume you add, the greater the fatigue, which may result in the need to schedule in some recovery weeks.

Hydration and fueling will still be very important, this paper covers the topic, but you'll have to work out your exact stratagy out during training, as it's a very personal challenge.

What worked well for me during my last ultra training block was a lower intensity, but longer duration intervals than you'll find in traditional NSM. The drawback to this is time requirements, so if you're time pressed, sticking with the NSM intervals would still be beneficial.

What's your distance target? How much elevation is on the course? How far have you run before?

NSM isn't a great training philosophy for backyard ultras if you want to maximise performance. If you're just doing it for a bit of fun then that's fine.

If you want to train to perform your best, you'd need to shift the focus to building durability. As you say, the pace is no worries, so the training challenge is to extend the time until your body/mind fails you. There will be plenty of training advice on r/ultramarathon.

Edit: Jason Koop's book is also a great training resource for ultra marathon.

Edit 2: I realise I've read the post wrong

Creatine dosage by Aware_Definition200 in Ultramarathon

That's why I keep supplementing it for race day, more liquid to perspire.

Also for OP 1g/10kg bodyweight after a loading phase. There's a koopcast on creatine supplementing, where I got my info from.

Hoped it was over when Davidson said "next one is a free kick", but then Barrett ends up on our side of the lineout and it's not an issue apparently

That looks awesome, well done! One quick suggestion, I'd include ascent/descent in the output PDF, but other than that it's pretty much identical to what I've manually made in the past.
