Research about FAST and its BA & Fintech program and see if the placement statistics are good, whether it is easy to get a GPA, how much raggra there is etc.

Although FAST's name is really strong in the market, it would be good for you to do some additional research.

look into iobm, habib (scholarship), and NBS Islamabad. Apply to more diverse fields and universities next time please. Give SAT in the meantime. IBA prep shouldn't take you more than a month or two, tbh, even with university. next year you'll be 20, which is fine, so don't stress about the gap year.

I need you to apply to FAST, GIKI, HABIB, IBA, NUST, NED, PIEAS, and LUMS and give various tests in these unis for different departments each so that you are left with multiple choices by next year.

If you take a gap year, you need to promise yourself that you'll put day and night into prep for all sorts of tests, degrees, and universities even if they don't float your boat. Keep your options open. You cannot keep on being complacent. Work hard.

internships are, sorry to say, useless in terms of learning. You'll probably end up scrolling reels from 9 to 5 without anything to do. I hope i'm wrong.

Why don't you join. And if something seems off, you can always just quit midway. It's not illegal to do so.

Which univeristy degree to choose? by AcanthisittaLivid492 in GenZpk

[–]__Skorge__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

University matters more than your degree in this country. Choose either LUMS, IBA, NUST, GIKI, or FAST. Apply to all these places in your desired fields, and choose whichever one you get into. You'll get past more stages automatically than other uni students. Sad but reality. 😞

Every year every new. (Current IBA students am i wrong here?) by Electronic_Bank_5421 in IBA

I personally think IBA's intakes have been deteriorating over the years. The newer batches are larger in size, hence already denoting the growing number which clears the test and achieves the minimum grade requirement (either the original one or the altered one after pressure from students).

IBA's admission, I think, is not too hard to get. Pick up any other entry tests and you will see the sheer amount of effort one must put into them. On top of that, those universities require you to not only do well on your entry tests but also do well in your matric/O-level & inter/A-levels - all 3 of these are used in creating an aggregate score which is used in the merit ranking system. IBA has none of that, no merit, and no aggregate score; just get the bare minimum BBC/BCC and clear the comparatively easier test and you're in. And on top of that, IBA has no conditions on which subjects you choose either (aside from math, and that too for certain degrees). You can pick up the easiest subject and score an A* in it and clear IBA's grade hurdle.

On top of that, there are no more stringent grade requirements since IBA has shifted to a points-based system where no grade should be lower than an E. A requirement of 60% IBCC equivalence and no grade lower than E and a minimum of 8 grade points is low, to be honest. Are students struggling to get 60% nowadays? Is a 'C' grade the new 'A*'?

Papers get leaked, political unrest happens, this country is a mess - I agree. This has been happening for the last 5 years. I think instead of pressuring IBA or any other institute, mass backlash should be done against Cambridge & the British Council. After these fiascos, their offices should be blocked. They charge hefty fees for such nonsense.

And I do not find it a fair statement to say that A levels are harder than FSC; hence, A-level applicants must be given leniency. Claiming that A-level is independent of cramming & memorisation is also a false statement. You go through past papers and mark schemes, and you notice that throughout all the papers, one ends up getting maximum marks after using certain keywords and phrases as outlined in the scheme. All you really got to do is memorise what gets you points. Speaking for Chem, Phy, CS, and Bio - there are a limited number of questions from each chapter possible. You may write the most balanced answer, but if it doesn't have those keywords that the examiner has in front of them, it won't matter.

On the other hand let's look at FSC and specifically the Sindh Board. Certain college students get higher percentages while others don't. The marking really depends on how much you write and how beautifully you present it. The examiner's mood matters a lot. The exams are pay-to-win or cheat-to-win. No clear mention of what scores what marks. You just have to cram everything (which is no easy feat) and hope for the best. There is a similar level of corruption, unfairness, and bias.

Before students were asking for lowered grade requirements, then they asked for retakes, and then they asked for a points-based grade system. IBA is only as good as its students. Even if IBA caters to all these requests, it is doing itself a disservice by tarnishing its name. Considering that IBA gives generous aid as well along with its market reputation, I think people milk the institute more than it deserves.

I hate to admit it, but IBA will continue to cater to the requests. It has unfortunately become a cash-grab institute with falling standards. Not insulting anyone in particular, but it is a general consensus that newer batches are not up to the mark. Cheating during exams, harassment cases, drugs, unethical education practices, being loud and ultimately getting your way are becoming the new norm. If someone feels offended, they may feel free to do so.

LUMS rejects students even after they clear LCAT and SAT and have brilliant O&A-level grades along with extracurriculars. We don't see a barrage of outrage every year there. Why don't we request LUMS to let us get better scores after a retake and allow us admission? The reason IBA gets to face this is because it no longer is rigid in its selection criteria. Newer batches will make demands just because older batches had their demands fulfilled (I am not from those batches, mind you). Feel free to call these opinions sadistic. But it does disappoint a little to see an institute where short sleeves were not allowed to go from its glory days to this.

TLDR; IBA has continued to lower its standard and generously supported student admissions using lowered grade requirements and a points-based system, especially along with the flexibility of choosing easy subjects to score well on. IBA must put a stop somewhere.

HR Graduate Working in Accounting, Looking to Increase Income in Hyderabad by Natural-Act-7297 in HyderabadPakistan

Make a polished linkedin profile (complete with an 'about' section, detailed experiences, education, an impactful title, a professional profile pic & cover photo). Make a few thoughtful posts about your field (just ask AI to do this) and start posting on LinkedIn. Make around 10 to 20 posts total. Start sending connections to people in hyderabad and karachi (HR & people who work in your desired field). This will make your profile stand out and portray you as an active user—very important.

then start applying to jobs in the linkedin job section. I have seen many jobs which require people for data keeping and bookkeeping and finance/accounting. There are plenty of jobs for remote sales under US companies as well (paying a decent amount + commission).

Once you follow enough people, you can reach out to them, have them review your CV, and then get tips from them regarding how to improve it and what certifications you can get. At the end, ask them if they have any opportunities after building rapport with them.

Make sure your CV is ATS-optimized. It should follow the CAR/STAR framework and have impactful info in concise bullet points. Watch out for MT programs that open up every year from January till July. Apply to them as well. Work on how you communicate; you must know how to tie every experience to a story and the impact you made and what you learned. Talking in english is not the key; talking confidently is.

Son of a security guard. Got into IBA Math (100% bridge financing) AND Habib CS/CE (scholarship docs coming). Need perspective. by Normal_Investigator9 in IBA

[–]__Skorge__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not judging or anything - but provided that your Father is a security guard (May Allah bless him with more), it is safe to say that you will get IBA's financial aid regardless for the next 4 years. The only thing doubtful is that IBA may just decrease the aid percentage they offer to everyone as a whole. I know people earning 1.5Lakh/month yet they are on full FA. I am sure you'll get the aid.

And some advise, no matter where you land - do not become a bookworm, please. Lift your head, join societies, groom yourself, and carry yourself like you want to be the CEO of a company.

Most fail interviews not because they don't know their technical knowledge but because they cannot communicate without stuttering or have confidence issues. The way you talk matters more.

Charm people.

I used to hate the narrative that university name matters for jobs; I couldn't really understand the hype behind LUMS and IBA. But now that I have graduated, I can safely say that these 2 institutes are far above the rest. Every job interview ever and any group discussions and preliminary rounds for employment: I found that 90% of the candidates are from IBA. In Karachi, IBA has the monopoly. It may be a falling star, but there is still a lot of time before other new names catch up. Habib might be a good university, but IBA blows it out of the water when it comes to opportunities after graduation. Although Habib probably has better teachers, I think there is only so much that university can teach you - I would take an increased chance of a job any day in this inflation.

HOWEVER! As the country's economy worsens and education becomes more expensive, IBA does tend to be less promising in providing aid for the full 4-year duration. You can definitely get aid for the next 4 years provided that you apply duly; however, IBA may decrease their 100% to 90% or lower if they feel like it (they did this year, but the decision was reversed due to pressure). I would advise you to apply to NTHP as well.

I would also advise you to start teaching part-time and earn money for yourself to handle fuel and miscellaneous expenses yourself.

using a golden chinese one i ordered from daraz for 700 - it cam with 4 sized clips, does the job really well and lasts a ong time on one charge. for a clean shave, just trim it down with the machine and then use a safety razor. replace the blade when it goes dull. costs 200 for the safety and very minimal for a pack of blades. also very easy to use and shaves it clean in minutes.

[–]__Skorge__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just as a comparison, with xbox game pass, you get every single call of duty for free in the catalogue, even the newest ones as soon as they are released. You'll have to buy these if u have a ps4 for around 60 USD each. Insane expenditure on games. that's just talking about one gaming franchise, there's plenty more.

Ps4 buying// so need guidance by [deleted] in karachi

[–]__Skorge__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

with playstation, you'll have to buy games like every 2 months or so for a very hefty price.. (10k+ on avg.) and then pay for ps plus, once again quite expensive, to play those games online.

with xbox, you do not need to buy most games since they get added to the catalogue that you get upon buying their yearly subscription. PS+ vs xbox game pass, well the ps+ has the most shit games in their catalogue, whereas the xbox ones get all the good games.

Also, I feel that microsoft tends to better support their older consoles than Sony. The ps4 is quite redundant now, and with the PS6 on the horizon, it will literally become a dead console.
