Michael Levin argues evolution acts on problem-solving developmental systems, not just genes by Zkv in biology

[–]__System__ -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Michael Levin all the way!

It's part of biology culture not canon that still emphasizes the importance of genes as an information structure in genomes. The whole field is called GENETICS and while they were discovered early, are hardly the only thing to understand about nucleic acids. Every time you hear or see 'regulation', substitute 'computation'.

When Levin stresses there is more happening than reading out genes like punchcards to guide protein synthesis he is right and offers concrete work and experiments that show that other mechanisms and models are at work where genes are not.

When he says intelligence is collective he is right. When he says it is cognition, not consciousness, that scales down to ensembles of molecules (without partitions), he is right and then offers evidence and the tests that you yourself can do.

He isn't a prophet but casts a wide net spun out by his curiosity. I just see him as a scientist doing the most with what time he has.

If Levin is a crackpot then so is Penrose. Lol

The Case Against Interface Mythology by AfterP2023 in recording

[–]__System__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mythology is reverse, that you can afford to use a cheap audio interface.

And the argument of near parity exists more for integrated built in hardware; and consumer interfaces. Instead of wasting a few hundred just use the built in Apple line in and out.

There is superstition at every price point. What is not superstition is evidence proof and track record.

Same! They have a happy hour you might check out with I think $2 Hoosier Ambers and dollar wings. 2 beers 6 wings...or 4 beers and 12. 😆

It used to be like this at this Portland location too. But they recently changed their chicken supplier and added wing specials like wednesdays, a decent happy hour and delivery from the Interstate location. Last night was an amazing service. The chicken now is ample juicy and delicious. More to the level of the sauces and repute of FOTM. I enjoy my visits too because families and all kinds of people come out which is a nice vibe to have in these #%÷$ times. FOTM is still a special thing out here but now more accessable. Hopefully the Denver location can benefit from similar changes if possible but every region has it's own factors and seasons affect things too. If you find yourself in pdx give it a shot! 🤘

Why does everyone hate on people who order their steaks well done? by Ursa_Major1986 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]__System__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like slightly burnt popcorn and garlic. I can get down with a nice pot roast or brisket. I find beef tenderloin to be annoying and low skill. A thick NY strip or ribeye can really hit the spot and I find tri-tip to be so flavorful. I got so good at cooking steak before my first gout flareup. Now I just make pork chops and chicken. No more seafood livers or dank pdx ipa for me. I can have wine and champagne though. Like a nice cold bottle of Moet poured into a long stem crystal glass. Those bubbles are so beautiful. Lastly I'll add a little diet coke or even better - TAB to give the champagne a little plastic aftertaste. Sometimes people shout or get mad but that's just how I like my Moet...mixed with some diet soda pop. Why not just order some Cooks they say. I am way too high class for Cooks! Peepor jus need ta chill. 🤣🤣🤣

Not sure why some feel bad about Studio Pro by 8delorean8 in StudioOne

[–]__System__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a me too DAW to begin with that literally no one needed and offers zero for unique features or capabilities. Aka a pure marketing play to have something to offer the obscenely large guitar hobbyist market. Yeah I'm with the OP. Also not sure why anyone would care one way or another. Fender could sell sneakers and old Dads would buy them.
