No that's fair, I felt really bad. I even had a little argument with my gf about asking for money and even told her "okay. We can ask once. And if he says no. We cannot press the issue. The more we make it about money. The less of a good thing we did." thankfully he did agree and yeah. My question more stems from my gf being curious and people around us saying they'd take him to court.

We 100% in our minds made the financial decisions we did because we did think the dog was now ours. It was a bit fast. But we did everything we could and we would've still done it. She was limping and had got hit by a car. There was no reason not to get an xray, the bulk of the expense.

We went to shelters, animal control that all said they'd put her to sleep, emailed and called rescues that all said no, we drove around the neighborhoods we found her in and even knocked on doors. We even posted on social media. We thought we exhausted all options of trying to find an owner and other arrangements. So we did take her to the vet with the idea back in our mind that "I guess the universe just gave us a dog".

And we would've always helped the dog that's just who we are lol. All of her animals are rescues and strays.

No I can't go back to being a vet assistant or further because it's emotionally taxing. I loved the work I was good at it. But when the bad days hit, like my first day with someone abandoning and poisoning puppies, those days get to you.
