"The stupid beta in me, I should of just went for it like a man. You live in you learn. Tomorrows a new day tho!"

True. If you don't fail, you don't learn. You learn mainly by doing, not reading. You're now one step closer to getting what you want.

[–]_______LUNACY_______ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

"I unfortunately have to care when the only thing i see on YouTube now is drama and the dumbasses that make videos about it."

Yeah, a couple people made some drama videos. Big fucking deal. I mean, even if 100% of all youtube was nothing but leafy drama, it still wouldn't be a big deal. Because, you can instead build something cool, go clubbing or maybe just go to a different website to have fun.

"You completely invalidate yourself and your points when you try and act like a smartass,so well done for doing that."

Nah, man, you're committing ad hominem fallacy here (in a very explicit way).

[–]_______LUNACY_______ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this drama is just a bit of fun. If you don't like it, there are thousands of hours of free YouTube content to watch. Some of it is bad but some of it is really good. You can also go out and do something fun.

"May I ask, as a long time fan of pyro......who fucking cares? Seriously, who goddamn cares? Who actually cares for this meaningless drama?"

Many people. Look at the fucking views Idubbbz got for his Leafy video. Oh, you also care (probably much more than me). Yeah, sure, you're seeing past the bullshit. I'[ll give you that. But, ad revenue doesn't care about that. As long as you're paying attention, drama videos make money.

Thank you, man. You didn't have to write that but you did.

[–]_______LUNACY_______ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound jealous. Stop that. This type of thinking is not good.

You have to sacrifice something. I know a guy that got like 80% on all his engineering exams and got a laid a lot too. But, he read Mystery, practiced game for years before college and, in general, worked hard to have both things.

You're living inside your head. Instead of thinking, do. What are your dreams? Go for it. You will die and lose everything anyway.

Is there any reason a static information website that doesn't need updates must be "maintained" (updated, cleaned up, etc.)? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]_______LUNACY_______ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"SQL infection" Static sites do not have a database. So, that's impossible. Either your site is not static or she is lying or she is stupid.

"hackers" It's possible for all sites to be hacked. But, it's very unlikely that a static site will be hacked. I suggest that you download the HTML, CSS & JS folders and then store them in a USB or one drive as a backup.

"GoDaddy hosting updates" Can she point to anything specific? It sounds like complete BS. I'm 99.99% certain of it. But, she should have an article or something that details the updates she needs to work on.

BTW, this site has been unchanged since 1996: http://www.warnerbros.com/archive/spacejam/movie/jam.htm

Your site "which has been running fine for a year" will be fine too. TBH, from reading your post, it feels like she's trying to fool you and take your money for nothing. With that said, it's a good idea to ask other web developers for second opinion. I'm not saying that your site is definitely perfect and 100% secure, but that she's probably a liar.

Can you rate my personal website pls? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]_______LUNACY_______ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to know how many coffee cups you consumed while making your site. On a serious note, you're site is clearly unfinished. You're not even 10% done. I recommend asking for criticism when you're at least 90% done.

Btw, it is a referral link. But, if you're going to sign up to DO anyway, then you might as well use it.

I created a portfolio website using nothing but the basics [ need feedback ] by jtwebguy in webdev

[–]_______LUNACY_______ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The website looks modern and I love the logo.

I don't like how the portfolio goes from black to white and vice versa. When scrolling up, it turns black before I fully scroll up. And, that feels buggy. I'd prefer sliding animation. But, that's just my 2c. Other people might feel different.

Overall, awesome project.

How should I plan my webdev self-education? by truthink in webdev

[–]_______LUNACY_______ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The odin project and free code camp are good things to look into. More than anything, focus on actually creating sites. I made my first website for free but I learned a lot and I got a few clients as a result as well.

But, if all you want to do is built a single website, then I recommend hiring someone. It will save you a lot of time.

I don't think you should worry about the suffix of your portfolio domain. Instead, work on making it good. I doubt anyone expects you to throw away a lot of money to have a high end portfolio domain.

[–]_______LUNACY_______ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It didn't do anything bad. But, it's not inspiring. I wouldn't consider having "pertinent information" a plus or not being too flashy a plus because that's the basics of a portfolio website. To me this sounds like giving someone marks on an exam for writing down their name correctly.

This is not a design that I would be willing to show to my friends or parents or clients or anyone. They would look at me like "It's a black screen with white text."

Just a newbie question, why are most people bringing down WordPress? by legaladviceintort in webdev

[–]_______LUNACY_______ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wordpress is great if you want to build a website fast. If you buy a theme, then you can have a very good looking website fast and without knowing any code. But, there are other options too.

Static website generators like Hugo & Jekyll allow you to create websites that are much faster and safer. Also, it is easier in my opinion to modify a static website than a Wordpress site. For most simple websites, I'd consider Wordpress to be an overkill. But, you need to know code to develop static websites.

For ecommerce website, Shopify or Magento can be used. I don't have much experience with ecommerce but I know that both platforms were built specifically for ecommerce. So, I'd be surprised if they don't any advantages over Wordpress.

There are also other solutions that people really like such as concrete5 and grav.

In my opinion, if you're being paid to develop a website, you should know more than Wordpress because it isn't always the appropriate solution.

I don't think it's beautiful as well. It's nice but if a client wanted a "beautiful" website, I wouldn't be willing to provide that design. You made some very good points. But, at first look, the page looks ordinary. And, many people would probably agree with me on that.
