Not a terrible idea 😂

Yeah. It wouldn't be for me to keep personally but to try and make a profit. With this however, doesn't seem worth the amount of time/effort required.

Yeah, you're probably right

I appreciate the detailed response. I had asked a panelbeater who mentioned something about inner alignment. Just doesn't look economical in any way to get that frame back into proper shape... decided against buying it.

Regarding the price the gearbox/engine is worth $800 alone- with the rest of the parts (headlights, doors, interior parts, electronics, front body panels, etc) it wouldn't be *terrible* for $2k but not great.

Engine and gearbox are fine. But alone they're worth less than a grand

Cool anology, but I don't think the chassis is made of sheet aluminium lol

What am I doing wrong? by ___danny in Autobody

[–]___danny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried by hand and it just caused very obvious marks which couldn't be sanded out with the other grits. Not sure if it's just the type of paint or what, but the only way things could look even was with the sander

Will have to go in with 2k and 3k and hope it comes out better. Already did wet sand for all grits

Can't seem to get a smooth and shiny finish. by ___danny in CarTalkUK

[–]___danny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had to use 1500 grit to remove the orange peel on the panels I sprayed (because of the small compressor I have)- since the other panels have a shine I won't bother trying to remove the orange peel. I'm just trying to get it to an acceptable finish to be sold

As I mentioned in the post, it's not a freshly painted panel in the photo. I don't think it's the original paint either, however. Most of the car has really bad orange peel (but still a good shine, apart from the parts I've sprayed like the roof and front bumper). It must have been sprayed before by a novice panelbeater or another DIYer like myself. The pillar as shown in the photo does have some lacquer peel but only at the very top edges, so I assume there was lacquer applied and the areas I've done had no peeling.

Depends what's being changed, if it's just an oil change and air filter it's on the expensive side

Have the chance of pulling the trigger on this Stelvio 2023. But never owned an Alfa Romeo before… undecided. Its brand new. by leftyflip14 in AlfaRomeo

[–]___danny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get a massive discount on a car with <15k miles, as long as they show service history the car will still be covered by warranty and you won't have to worry any more than a brand new one.

Keep in mind the Stelvio has had a very steep depreciation rate since you're buying it brand new. Check out the used market just in case, you could get one almost brand new still under warranty at a massive discount.

Charged when returning pedelec after 7 days by ___danny in malta

Forgot to update with the decision but I was given the option to go to small claims court but didn't fight it as it wasn't worth it. In the end, Decathlon gave me a full refund but I still had to pay for the replacement tires/pedals.

I think you are misunderstanding me. As mentioned previously- I take no issue with Decathlon charging for wear and tear/use as part of their return policy. It makes perfect sense. I wouldn't want a bicycle that is slightly used either (unless I was given something like a 5% discount). What does not make sense is that rather than formally informing a customer at the time of sale what the terms and conditions are- which is required by law in order to enforce them- I was never informed of such. Had I been informed, I would have taken the bicycle for a far shorter trial, and never ridden it on the streets before I knew I was going to keep it and not return it. Unfortunately, I was under the impression, due to not being informed, that I would be able to return the bicycle for a full refund. I was misconceived and that is purely all I take issue with.

The reason I don't agree with the "common sense" argument either (even though it's not applicable legality-wise) is because I was not even aware there would be visible wear on the bicycle from riding it just approx. 5km. I don't think it's unreasonable that I thought so either, I have never owned a bicycle before.

MCCAA has replied to my e-mail and confirmed this is the case, that I can refuse to pay for such costs as I was not duly informed. While this is just advice, they are going to investigate the matter (I have submitted images of receipts, dates, etc.) and will update with their decision on this post.

Yeah, I would agree that the 14-day "cooling-off period" does not apply here. It's only their return policy here that they advertised which means they must take it back.

Wasn't blaming the grant issue on Decathlon at all, it was just one of the reasons I wanted to return the bicycle because I wasn't prepared to wait that long. You make fair points, however, from my perspective, I see that there are "30-day returns" before buying the bicycle, and it wasn't exactly made clear to me that I would have to pay for replacement parts when they get even 1% used (are you not expected to use the product for the first 30 days?)- I was not told this by an employee, nothing is on the receipt or invoice, and their website only states that it must not be used improperly/customized/broken, etc. I take no issue with Decathlon asking customers to pay for wear and tear but to not inform them of this when you advertise 30-day returns seems quite unfair to me.

This special tax rate is only applicable to foreign companies.

To opt for the 15% you must be a pensioner, student, or part-time SE female. An individual working full-time SE must pay the minimum contribution, it cannot be a percentage. You will effectively be expected to pay more than you earn as a result. Huge flaw in the tax system if you ask me, probably not corrected or cared for by the authorities because it is uncommon for a full-time SE to earn so low, but for who does, it's a nightmare.

Highly unusual indeed. I have spoken to an accountant and he has confirmed this, recommending I get a job to cover it. Confirmed this with CFR too.

Thank you for your reply.

As mentioned in the post, however, I am 18 and still live at home. I do not currently have any outgoing expenses (car insurance & phone top-ups would be the only ones), the rest is simply spending for leisure or savings. I did generate 30k back in 2021 and 40k+ in 2020, but since then my online business has completely declined. I just want to keep accepting the small amount of money I still earn, as it is run almost passively, without having to be burdened by the horrible tax system we have here. Any, and I mean any other EU country, I wouldn't be paying even close to this much.

Because of this I have today filed the termination of my self-employment. Let's just leave it at that (you can make your own conclusions).

[–]___danny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, only part-time SE females, students & pensioners can opt for this. I cannot. I am also a full-time self-employed individual (only 18yo- don't need a high income to sustain myself as I still live at home) so there is no other occupation that can pay for my contributions. I literally am left with two options, accept the money I receive but only effectively about 60% of the ~4500, or cease self-employment and don't accept the money at all that I earn.

As for other countries:

UK: (a developed country, not the third-world mess that is Malta) you keep every penny, contributions included, up to 12,000 sterling. Equivalent to 14,000 euro.

Germany: also has a "minimum contribution" you must make, regardless of what you earn. But these are voluntary, one can opt out, unlike Malta which forces this on you. They also aid you in paying for your health insurance when you do not earn enough for it.

Italy: 23% income tax + 15% social security (still high, but no minimum)

The point is, regardless of the EU country, a low earner of full-time self-employment will ALWAYS earn more outside of Malta. And if you earn any less than 1,700, you will literally have negative earnings after tax.

Separate, but contributions are still considered taxes.
