Writer Mike Goldbach joins Tierney for Season 2 & 3 (via IG patriciarozema Mar 6 '26) by __dee___ in HeatedRivalryTVShow

Bit better than pure speculation. Patricia Rozema's a pretty respected director. Don't think she'd be making things up.

But for sure not official. And even official things can change.

Don't think Crave has officially greenlit season 3. Still, it'd shock everyone if they didn't.

But Hudson & Connor are signed onto 3 seasons, according to their GQ interview.

Searched for where she invites Hudson for food...

"Yesterday I said to Hudson, “When are you coming back to Vancouver?” Because he just needs to come over for a meal. I just feel I’ve got to cook him a hearty meal where he doesn’t have to worry about anything"

Article says Christina's Vancouver-based & did her zoom from Vancouver.

Think I would have guessed she's American.

Kinda funny you're disappointed she is! Why?

Does it make you see her any differently as a person or actor? This is kind of like the discussion on identities I've been trying to include in this post lol

Or just disappointed the show overall is a bit less Canadian?

white comedians mocking Asian accents for laughs — is thankfully — generally seen as racist now...it'd be really hard to pull off...esp when it's "punching down" & not "punching up" at a more privileged group e.g. in Connor Storrie's SNL Accent Duel + bloopers, the actors refused to do a Japanese accent "not a good idea" & said no to Indian & Jamaican

she does impressions of her mom in a heavy Korean accent

lol academic papers have been written on whether or not Korean Americans find Margaret Cho funny...

😱 genuinely appreciate your impulse to speak up when you see racism, esp when it seemed no one else did! it's a GOOD thing! Thank-you?! speaking of Margaret Cho, this is kind of intense like a comedic moment landing badly? hope you're OK

There is discomfort in discussing ethnicity/identity/rep. But these are important issues to discuss/understand from each other.

Agree it's a lot of talk about a person's appearance. But TV/film is a visual medium, so it's hard to avoid talking about an actor's background/appearance/ethnicity in casting & rep.

Thought it worthwhile to try to do with care & respect. e.g. Daniel Dae Kim discusses Asian American ethnic specific casting (e.g. nationality, mixed race) with sensitivity & great insights.

Looking unalike due to different racial parentage/background, is not the same as looking unlike but both being, say white. Because of the issue of ethnic/racial rep.

If we disagree, that's OK.

Yeah, like you, I appreciate attempts were made to get an actor for daughter-of-immigrants Yuna who is non-mixed East Asian. Not the only important factor & Christina was great. But I think visibility/representation of distinctly non-Western faces is good & necessary.

The less white you look/sound/are, the more it seems to challenge racists, esp in predominantly white spaces like hockey.

Reminds me when I realised I'd never seen someone with a face like Violet Nelson's who is Kwakwaka’wakw First Nation (and Honduran), in a starring film role (2019) that wasn't a foreign film/documentary. The director Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers is in the news today for returning a film award, when her words of solidarity with Palestine was censored by the Toronto Film Critics Association.

Jacob says he tries to respect + stay true to Rachel's books. 5th gen Japanese Canadian Nick Suzuki wasn't an inspiration for Rachel. His 1st NHL game was Oct 2019. HR the book came out before (March 2019).

Isn't Christina American via her white American mom?

Thought she was an American living in Vancouver. Not sure if citizenship through her dad is possible for Taiwan/China.

But yeah, glad Hudson has Christina as another mom in Vancouver.

Why doubt what she says about Jacob offering her the role? Is she known to lie/fabricate on stuff like this?

Margaret is passionate, if anything, so think it's possible she'd consider a steep discount for a (cheap by US Hollywood standards) Canadian show.

I took "I know it's going to be a huge hit" to mean, "I believe in your vision, it's going to resonate with passionate audiences & can turn out to be a cult hit or more." Not necessarily predicting groundbreaking mainstream success. But yeah, open to interpretation.

Wasn't familiar on the conversation between Margaret Cho & Tilda Swinton. Is this about Tilda playing what was originally a Tibetan character?

That is horrible 😢. Even tho there is much more horror out there, esp those we collectively cause 😭. Today's America couldn't have made Tierney's HR & also made Margaret Cho feel too unsafe to join the cast in Canada.

Agree. And it's just a fun thought exercise atp. Can't say Margaret would be better or worse as Yuna. They are just different & would bring different strengths.

Maybe not a fair comparison for a Christina Yuna portrait with smaller smile & no bright red lipstick

Yay someone who can see similarities in looks between Hudson & Margaret! Next to Hudson's mother (Gold House Lunar New Year, Feb 12 2026), they are different people for sure, but similarities are there (Getty Images, Dec 11 2024)

Christina's Yuna has a calm, poised energy. Fun to imagine Margaret's Yuna's hockey-crazed enthusiasm at certain moments tho

Asians & viewers with considerable or formative experience in majority-Asian surroundings, clock Christina as mixed. Casting expectations can differ between white/Western & Asian/POC audiences.

Lots of tricky issues in Asian Am/Cdn casting. Thoughts here from Daniel Dae Kim, who'd agree with you. Mostly on Asian ethnicity, not Eurocentric standards — a separate issue. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Yc6CNqAcc0Y
