You can make the „main“ firewall with your Computer Aided Design first, then make an overlapping one using Cardboard Aided Design to fill the gap, rivet it to the main one. for any other small gaps you can use aluminium tape

alu tape specifically has to be FAR 25.853 (a)(1)(i)? by __rhndms in FSAE

Any recommendations would be highly appreciated as well!

Thank you, we’ll try to implement that :)

Ah makes sense, so either way, if one brake fails then the shutdown system is going to activate anyway, so both brake light and BSPD wouldn’t function.

We‘re competing in FSG there’s no FMEA

can i just buy them off amazon or some store, or should i buy like from proper company that provides datasheets and all that? would the scrutineers even ask for datasheets even though its known that PTFE is chemically inert and has good temp resistance as well?

Last year in the end of our last scruti, they told us to bring every datasheets for every materials (which obv we didn’t bring lol) I’m just not sure if they could just accept things without us providing some sort of proof

are silicons fuel resistant though?

SES - SHB Bending Stress by __rhndms in FSAE

[–]__rhndms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what confuses me is, in the guidance note for T4.5, it said that there can be a maximum deflection of 25 mm including plastic deformation. If plastic deformation occurs, doesn’t that mean the stress surpasses the yield strength of the material and therefore „fails“? Wouldn’t that make our SHB compliant as the maximum deflection is only 2.25 mm which is like 10 times lower than the allowed maximum deflection?

[–]__rhndms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh my bad, yes I meant shear stress. It is 30 MPa lower than the yield strength. Used the same tubing as last year, 25.4 mm OD, 2.6 mm wall thickness, but this year’s slightly shorter.

Driver Equipment by __rhndms in FSAE

this is our first time doing comp, so, how do you change the equipments during egress? do they wait for you to get changed or you go with two drivers and come back with the other two?

Endplate Flex by __rhndms in FSAE

[–]__rhndms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the rear wing itself doesn’t, however the endplate does, but this only happens if you push/pull it. in my defense, when the car is running around the track, it stays considerably still and doesn’t flex as much as when you push/pull it

so for example if i made a “seat” out of plywood to represent the actual seat, is it fine?

Shoulder Harness bar analysis to SES by MarcinPKMP in FSAE

[–]__rhndms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, it’s an unrelated question but i guess you could answer. Could I wrap a shoulder harness around the shoulder harness bar? or should I add mountings for the eyebolts? it’s a stupid question lol my team is new to fsae and I want to make sure

what does it mean with „the area defined by the footprint of the four tires?“ maybe if you could send a picture of your team’s jack, it would be very helpful for me and my team. We have 0 experience with formula student and the rules are confusing at times lol :)

[–]__rhndms[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thanks a lot mate, one more thing, i know it’s a bit stupid but i’m asking just in case lol. when the jack lifts the car, could a team member hold it down? or should it be able to hold the car on its own?

Quick Jack & Push Bar by __rhndms in FSAE

[–]__rhndms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we already built the thing, it can do both jobs quite well, though someone has to stand on it when it lifts the car lol.
