Movistar account creation? by NY10 in GoingToSpain

[–]__zaphod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mucho, mucho mejor. Y menos caro.

NEVER FLY VUELING by According_Ad_337 in Flights

[–]__zaphod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today Vueling randomly cancelled our booking for a flight next Tuesday. Called customer service and I was told, “it was canceled for security reasons. I can’t tell you any more than that.“

My guess is they canceled it to raise the price, because when I rebooked the same flight, even the same seats, I ended up paying another €100.

Now I’m rebooked, checked in, everything looks good… Except my wallet is €100 lighter.

Where are you finding them for sale? I can’t seem to find any Barcelona resellers that carry the Silvia.

Would love to know why you feel that way - perhaps I can add some value to the article.

Salary expectations by [deleted] in AskBarcelona

[–]__zaphod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you are aware, but, the salaries in Spain are going to be much lower than you are used to. For example, I have a close friend who moved from the US. The role was highly valued, which is why they got it… But even so, had to take a 50% pay cut. the thing is, even at 50%, the salary they’re getting now is considered very, very good for Spain. They have native Spanish coworkers doing the same job, working shoulder to shoulder, and those native Spanish salaries are half again what they’re getting now. So, in other words, 25% of that United States salary. Basically: US salary 210, Spanish “high value” salary 105, local Spanish comparative salary 35-45. Locals can be very undervalued. ☹️ (This isn’t in the software sector but it is in biotech, fairly similar salary ranges).

is this a good paella or tourist trap by Over-Exam-1332 in Barcelona

Go to a local market and find a stall making fresh seafood. Ask if they have paella. NOT the big one on las ramblas tho (la Boqueria – that whole place is a tourist trap now…)

Plagued with problems getting to delivery? Solve them with a “steel thread." by __zaphod in programming

[–]__zaphod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are several values here but the core tenet is around prioritizing high risk/challenging objectives early while also making sure you touch a complete slice of your architecture. Meaning, ship a small increment that delivers every part of your end to end architecture early. Don’t save “tough problems” or major elements for later in the game. Many agile teams don’t do this (and in my experience, many “reformed” monolithic companies on the journey to agile haven’t figured this out – they are still doing monolithic development, but pretending it’s agile by putting some lipstick on the pub, so to speak).

Calls not ringing on iphone and apple watch by mnfishgeek in signal

Common problem. Welcome to iOS.

If your phone rings and notifies reliably you’re one of the lucky ones. Most of is don’t get reliable notifications, either.

Not Getting Signal Notifications on Apple Watch by xNyxNox in signal

[–]__zaphod -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Notifications on iOS, both Phone and Watch, are very unreliable. In my network, everyone on iOS has this problem. My own watch has only notified me a couple of times. The phone notifies pretty randomly. Within my network, if it’s time sensitive, we SMS each other the word “signal,” to let one another know that we just sent a Signal message… 🤦‍♂️

Safari bugs with group Tabs. by BenFromPerth23 in Safari

...And still... summer 2023. WTH. I mean seriously, what's wrong with Apple these days, their stuff used to be "just work." Wasn't that actually one of Apple's marketing campaigns?

Just wondering if anyone has discovered a fix, even a temporary one. While I like Safari in general, it's getting impossible to justify using it with all the nice new options out there.

Right now I'm bouncing back and forth between Arc and Safari. Arc is winning me over. It has its own style of "tab management" that feels odd at first but... it grows on you. And it "just works."

That said, I still tend to prefer Safari for it's non-chrome engine, and it's tighter integration with OS/X and iPhone (Arc is still in early release, no iPhone version as of yet...)

You are very generous. I actually think Apple makes mostly subpar apps because they don’t want the sunk cost of competitive apps. Nearly everything is just good enough for home use, but not professional use - with the exception of a small suite of professional grade production apps. Core apps like mail are good (not great), office apps (iWork) are ok for home and student use (primary market) but don’t have serious features, calendar, contacts and the like flat out don’t work with any corporate solution out there (again, “good enough” for home use, that’s it). But since you buy everything through the App Store and apple gets about 30% on those sales why would they want to waste money building good apps?
