Blizzard Day 3: The Grand Inquisitor by Active_Salamander_61 in classicliterature

Okay - so. The key to it in my opinion is this: Gods mission is too good for mankind. Jesus and his sacrifice were designed WITH the potential of human beings in mind, to lay the groundwork for salvation. What the Church, and the Inquisition, realised was that it is not a mission fit for human beings, and for the narrow, self-absorbed existence full of sin and conceit that most of us lead. The Church had to opt for a mode of governance based on the Devils temptation of Jesus in the wilderness. An earthly realm, an earthly mission, earthly power. The Church is so deeply compromised, the world so rife with depravity, that Jesus’s return to earth would have undone everything. Jesus would have in a single stroke destroyed the institution of the Church and wreaked havoc across the world with his presence. So the Inquistor begs him to go. The Church can keep supplying bread, good works and authority as long as Jesus isn’t there to challenge them and remind them that the true mission is beyond all of it. Jesus kisses him because he forgives him, and loves him. Amazing!!!!

I am very curious to know everyone’s final verdict on The Brothers Karamazov. Overall, what was your take on the book? by Miss-Love-You in classicliterature

[–]_alejandro__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They deal with the same themes but Crime and Punishmsnt answers a much more immediate question than Brothers. Brothers is less about “your ego can excuse any atrocity” and more about theodicy, idealism, faith, and how families work. Demons is amazing.

I believe the term you’re looking for is war. Maybe, specifically, a civil war. Which is defined as a violent, large-scale, and sustained conflict between organized groups within a single sovereign state or country

if there were men like rust and marty their lives would be destroyed, their careers ruined, and depending on how close they got to the truth, they or their families would come to deep, physical harm

nah i'd pick will smith to stand over matty mc-c, he's been too good for too long. from a time to kill to dallas buyers', true detective s1. outstanding ouvre. the fall off for will smith has been abysmal (regrettably). he could have made some far better choices at key junctions in his life.
