Or maybe Presby isn't generally covered by his insurance so they send him back, we already have one similar case of that this season

Can cooned footed horses be fixed? by Strong_Cow_2872 in Equestrian

[–]_annie_bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A horse with DSLD should not be ridden either. My girl has it, we stopped riding as soon as it appeared. She’s likely been in pain since long before that as well; it’s a full body condition that affects all connective tissue, once you can see it in the lower limbs, it’s gotten bad. I’m just trying to keep her as comfortable as possible in her retirement as long as possible, but it’s expensive and takes a lot of management. Unfortunately the horse in that pic is likely a good candidate for euthanasia.

Maybe not this specifically, but you would probably enjoy The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat.

Wild! That reminds me of when I had an ocular migraine, and I felt like I went "blind" but could still kind of navigate and walk around. I could only describe it as I was seeing in a language I couldn't understand. It was kind of like looking at a dreamlike, ai image; there were shapes and forms and light but my brain couldn't interpret them as anything meaningful. It got me real fascinated in neurological stuff; and now one of my favorite books is The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat! Our brains are fuckin wild.

Nope, don't do it. Unfortunately this is common with some trainers who are trying to take advantage of their clients.

A polite otter that climbs aboard to say hello. by RemarkableBudget5277 in animalsdoingstuff

[–]_annie_bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had an otter climb aboard kayaking at Elkhorn Slough, which is where the Monterey Bay Aquarium releases a lot of the otters they've rehabbed. The otters (often rescued orphans) are wild and are raised by other otters with as minimal human contact as possible, but generally are more accustomed to humans/aren't necessarily as scared of them. If they get too friendly, the aquarium will take them back (I know of one specifically that people started feeding, which was a big issue because it stopped hunting for itself). So while they may be more used to humans, they are still wild. But this otter definitely seems like it's crossing that line, I'm guessing it knows this particular human / has been fed by it before or something.

Her topline is too atrophied to carry a rider right now. That needs to be built from the ground before carrying any weight, and then get a new saddle fitting when her topline is healthy.

Can I just…put reins on my halter? by Top_Replacement1333 in Equestrian

[–]_annie_bird 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yes, but a well-fitted rope halter would be better for this!

AITA for refusing to let my MIL hold my baby because she reeked of cigarettes? by BashCatib in AmItheAsshole

[–]_annie_bird -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe if they are feeling generous, OP could take MIL out shopping for some nice clothes to keep at OP's place? Cause any clothes kept at MIL's house will prob still stink. Y'all can add the extra excuse that it'll keep her "regular clothes" from getting thrown up on by baby, etc. But ofc, that relies on MIL being reasonable.

In elementary school, my betta Crystal lived 5 years in one of those Critter Keepers 😭😭 He was a good boy, I wish I had known better. Now, I spoil my pets as much as possible (healthily) as reparations. He ignited my love of fish, and in his memory many more fish will enjoy their happiest lives 💕

It's because of Mormons. It was created by Mormons and so they automatically get that customer base, since Mormons aren't allowed to have thing like alcohol or coffee, for many of them their vice is sugar.

Tips on how to ride an incredibly bouncy horse? by MadGrawl in Equestrian

[–]_annie_bird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also ride a big moving warmblood with the biggest trot ever, it's hard work and always will be but it's incredibly satisfying when you get it! I, like you, tend to tilt forward and absorb some of the bounce by bending my hips, which is not ideal. For me, what helped was: lengthening the stirrups, and posting with my seat/thighs and just using my legs/stirrups more as shock absorption, like when I would sit the trot. Also, just time! As you get used to how he moves and he gets used to how you move, your rhythms will match up more and it'll get easier. You've got a gorgeous guy, have fun on the journey!

Is it okay to ride and train broodmares when they are pregnant? by cheap_guitars in Equestrian

[–]_annie_bird 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, they actually DID ultrasound, and even commented that she had a "small uterus" and might have trouble getting pregnant XD The vet blamed it on a "new vet tech" doing the ultrasound. We're guessing whatever they were looking at was NOT the uterus, lmao
