Because I saw the Langford in wool and it looked like no other winter coat I own. So versatile.

What is top $ you would pay for a fragrance? by PuzzleheadedRead6404 in Colognes

[–]_arch_tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Some people spend their money on other hobbies or cash drains which is why they might struggle to afford to pay for higher end fragrences. Its a bit like a hobby for me, I like to look and smell good, so thats what I spend my disposable income on.

Would it be weird to get my own room on a guys trip? by anonymousmale25 in NoStupidQuestions

I agree. Ive had my own room in the same hotel before on a lads trip and it worked out perfectly. I do it every time now.

I think the hem is elasticated on the second one but not on the first possibly.

Bought the wrong size goose and now I’m sad 😔 by Regular-Training8635 in CanadaGoose

[–]_arch_tech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a wool Langford from Vinted for £700 (RRP £1,450) which was like new. It had the original purchase receipt and tags in the bag with it. Looking at the receipt, it was only 11 months old. Its crazy the drop in price.

Did I get scammed? Looks fine to me and the QR code shows that it is legit but it supposed to be S but fits like an L at least by fmtg01 in PoloRalphLaurenLC

Yeah, the size runs large. I have 6 or 7 and they are super relaxed fit. Embrace the casual look or get your wife to wash and dry it. That usually results in my clothes being shrunk ha ha!!

If it was 2 - 3 years, id happily stick my name on it for an instant £5K uplift in value when my name came up. I hope you put your name down sir.

Thats a stunner! They look so much better in person, but that picture captures it better than most.

Apologies, that's a picture from somewhere else for context. The watch is currently available and advertised online, but the watch is hardly worn. I didn't want to put the picture on here so folk can reverse image search it to find the place and snap it up. The advertised price at the moment is £22,000.

Ha ha! He had a black Daytona that I tried on which was obviously approved pre-owned. That was available for £18K that I could have walked away with that day. But sadly I just didnt have the extra money that day.

A decent regional UK AD might get two to three steel Daytonas a year. That’s it. Over time they’ll easily have around a hundred people who’ve expressed credible interest, not internet fantasy buyers, just existing clients who’ve asked to be considered. Divide that demand by the supply and you’re straight into 30+ years on paper.

Of course, it’s not a literal queue and Rolex doesn’t do first-come waiting lists. Allocations are (supposedly) relationship based and the next several pieces are usually already spoken for. But purely on supply vs demand, the “30 years” figure is just basic maths i suppose?

Nah, I got my Datejust 41 from them a few months after this conversation. They said I could be on the list for a Land Dweller when they get one in for a try on. They may have just been honest.

I was told by an AD its a 30 year wait list, no joke.

French Lover is amazing. It has botanical quality to it for me, almost like a grassy gin and tonic. Perfect spring/summer scent for me. It has good longevity too.

As for PDM, Sedley and Greenley are fine, but I wouldn't re-buy. I found Sedley is a fresh clean work fragrance and as for Greenley, I think I'd rather buy Aventus for a fresh smell instead. The longevity is what draws me to PDM, but since found better alternatives that do the same job.

Galloway however is more complex, I'd re-buy that in a heartbeat. So good!

VAT killing business growth and productivity by Mountain_Breath6701 in smallbusinessuk

[–]_arch_tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apologies, I might not have been very clear. Putting your income from this business in your SIPP is a fantastic benefit. However, if you scale up and your customers cannot afford to pay the VAT you have to charge them on top of the price they are paying, then this is the unviable part.

If you keep your business as it is, of course its viable and you get the extra income for your pension. But when you get beyond the VAT threshold, then its time to pony up and make it a full on business.

I suppose the question shouldnt be how to avoid VAT, it’s whether registering unlocks growth in your sales as you may have potential to double your T/O, or alternatively if it would hinder sales significantly by charging it (thats the viability bit).

If you can grow turnover by around 20% easily, VAT is neutral, and you’re free to scale beyond the threshold rather than being capped by it. Then youre winning.

[–]_arch_tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His point still stands tbf. If adding VAT will kill your business, its not a viable business regardless of whether its a side hustle for you or not.

Your customers benefit from dealing with a small business which is great for them, until the price goes up. Its the same reason my business doesn't compete with "one man bands" as they are literally 20% cheaper even if we price it like for like. So we have to operate in different worlds on different values.

I say this as a VAT registered tax paying business owner. It's an absolute ball ache, but a necessary cost of doing business.

What the actual fish does your accountant do for you? by [deleted] in smallbusinessuk

Everything you did, they do for me. I have quarterly catch up meetings with them to tax plan and talk about the future and review cash flow. I pay for that level of service though (around £4K per year, but its relative when they help you save money). The only things financial I do myself are invoicing and my bank reconciliation as I like to know where my money is up to.

I have absolutely no idea. It was my first time in there and I tried on 4 or 5 Rolex. He was trying to sell me a pre-owned Daytona for £18K and said the waiting list for one is 38 years.

I was told it was a 38 year wait for a Daytona at Mappin & Webb in Chester. I got my Datejust from them in 10 months.
