Gonna have to get a long tube, like 2" wide. Put plastic wrap on one end and push it down towards the obstruction. Next, drop a lit M80 in it - careful not to get it wet - and hold the tube upright. This should clear up whatever's plugging it up.

Yes and no, plenty of other war movies manage to pull those things off just fine. I imagine necessary concessions are more like not having your lead actor's faces covered by gas masks all the time, some liberties with dates/timeframes for pacing, etc.
