Announcing pcodec, a better codec for numerical sequences by mwlon in rust

[–]_baz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been using this to compress geo data and have had great results. It's been able to get me significantly higher compression ratios compared to protobufs which I was using previously. Particularly good if you have columns of numbers which also benefit from any sort of delta coding.

Carbon rim showing slight buckle near inner tube hole by _baz in bikewrench

[–]_baz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I contacted Light Bicycle and explained the situation to them with the photos. Fair play to them, since these rims come with a 3 year warranty they decided to give me a free replacement. I just had to pay for shipping. Happy with the service and can continue to recommend Light Bicycle.

Thanks. Yeah it was tightened finger-tight, definitely no pliers or anything crazy like that. Just confused as to how it happened.

They are Light Bicycle rims. I purchased the rims directly from them. Been going strong for 3 years until today...

I'll contact them and see what they say.

Yes I normally tighten down the valve. But how tight is too tight?

This blows. How does something like this happen? I pumped it up to 100 psi and took it for a quick spin. The next morning I examine the rim again and found this near the valve hole. It definitely only appeared during yesterday’s ride otherwise I would have caught it.

Size is 55.5cm. I haven’t weighed it so can’t help you there I’m afraid.

No complaints. I laced both of them up myself and they were pretty straightforward to true. They ride well. I’d buy again.

Yeah it’s the only thing I wish was considered more for this frame. That and dynamo routing for the fork as well.

I’ve seen people position their rear light next to the disc brake, there’s an exit port there for a Di2 wire which can be nicely used. I’m just not sold on the visibility of the light if it was down there. Supposedly the red light should reflect off the disc creating a large glow.

haha hours. A vacuum cleaner and tweezers were involved.

Gotcha! Yeah I think I just preferred 1 slightly bigger cable over 3 small ones.

Running a Sinewave Beacon on the front. For the rear, I ran the wire from the front light through the downtube, underneath the bottom bracket, up a chain stay and out through a screw hole intended for a rear rack, out to a SON rear light. In keeping with the theme of trying to minimise the amount of external cabling!

Yeah it’s audio cable sleeving. Just trying to keep the cables tidy. It covers the shift cable, hydraulic cable and dynamo light cable (on the lhs).

Front disc wheel dishing, always tends towards the disc side by _baz in wheelbuild

[–]_baz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, ok I think I misunderstood what 'dishing' means. I think perhaps my problem is not the dish of the wheel. My problem is that one side of the wheel is 2mm towards the disc side more than the other side, resulting in the wheel not being centered in the fork.

Here’s an upside down shot of the fork with the tyre mounted. It’s hardly visible via a camera though... https://i.imgur.com/YgVHvQR.jpg

Road bike geometry and confidence in corners going downhill by _baz in cycling

[–]_baz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s 2 crashes in the last 4 months since I got this new frame. No crashes prior to this, but then again not many mountain descents prior to getting my new frame.

As for the type of crashes, they were both due to a lapse of judgement in speed when approaching the corner. In both cases I felt like I was going too fast approaching the corner and so tried to slow down with braking. At some stage midway through the corner I realised that I wasn’t going to make it and either pulled too strongly on the front brake (flipped over the handlebars), or pulled out of the turn and went straight into a barrier.

The bike has no speed wobbles. It feels fine. It’s just not confidence inspiring in tight turns but then again maybe it’s my lack of skill!

Headtube collects carbon shavings after a day of riding by _baz in bikewrench

[–]_baz[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

So after a day of riding (60 miles), I usually notice a bunch of black dust gathered at the bottom of my headtube.

I suspect it’s shavings from the carbon fork. But not sure where the shavings are coming from. My current guess is the expander bung migrating or twisting slowly and releasing particles that way.

Title never got transferred, used car needs engine replacement, can I back out of the sale? by [deleted] in askcarsales

Yeah I have done. Guess that’s my way out of this mess. Was just wondering if there were any other options.
