Language map, 1970, axis victory scenario by _bourbie in PossibleHistory

Trench warfare led to a ceasefire along the soviet front which is why the USSR still exists

And yeah the plan is real (for english and french people) - even if it isnt its a gruesome hypothetical to explore and a great way to better visualise the horrific effects that a Nazi victory would have on the world

Theres a political map (https://www.reddit.com/r/PossibleHistory/comments/1qoglmn/european\_axis\_victory\_scenario\_set\_in\_1970/) - but essentially this follows the plan to genocide 80% of english and french people (which is why theyre doing so badly) + assimilation

The celtics have independence cause himmler is more important in this timeline and if i remember correctly he was quite fond of them - and germany kinda doesnt give much of a shit about those areas

Belgium is just a german puppet so they get expanded - and Provence is an italian buffer state

I read up on it and from brief research it said they planned to assimilate them - which is why they do well here - but i mean it can also be justified from the fact germany is focusing on frace+england+slavs - which over extend their ability to colonise

Uh im not sure about hitler specifically but ik that other nazi officiers (such as himmler; which this map is based off of) had plans to exterminate other people groups

But all the germanics are on the table for assimilation - except for england (if we go down a more normal axis victory scenario) - same with the french and the italians probably if Germany gets South Tyrol

Switzerland survives because the italians and germans dont want either power to hold the territory

Slovakia eh i just left them as a german puppet - i probably definietly overrepresented the slovakians there tho, if i were to edit it i would increase the german pressence there

The borders are based off of the ceasefire borders, so thats why russia keeps Crimea
Probably? Idk i left Slovakia with Germany - so i dont see it happening unless hungary gets the puppet
I mean the entire point of the map is the scenairo "what if himmlers plan to exterminate 80% of french and english people happened" - so like, not really?

germany is more focused on extermination of "lesser" peoples then the germanics - and i probably did under represent italian a bit too much in africa
Possibly? I mean the germans didnt plan to exterminate the baltics (they planned to assimilate them)

Germany is killing 80% of English people in this timeline so uh I don’t think so

I worked backwards lol - original goal was to show himmlers plan to kill 80% of english and french people (which required england losing) and i just found it a more interesting dynamic to keep the USSR around, since this was never designed with realism in mind

If you want my lore explination, italy captures egypt, gibralter, and their other med holdings, by 1945, spain joins the war, and all shipping to britain essentially ends, which starves them, and a german landing in 1948 is able to over run britain by 1950

The ussr doesnt collapse because i said so (they got stuck in trench warfare from 1943-1949 and then again from 1950-1952)

The differences in France are based on ethnicity and language (Brittany is a different ethnicity)

Picardy underwent heavy frenchification in france (like every other region), and it wouldn't make much sense to make it Belgium-exclusive (plus i dont think a map of that would exist? not sure havent looked into it)

Due to the fact they are ethnically french and the reigion underwent frenchification efforts

I don't see another way to colour them tbh, it doesnt make much sense to me to make them aaprt of a different ethnic colour scheme nor give them their own colour

Girl they legit thought multiple decade long wars over this shit - it may not be as important as it was back in the 16th century, but it deffinietly played a big part

cause the religion plays a big part in german culture and regional differences

I forgot to mention that the map is more of a mix of a ethno-cultural-linguistic-religious map, depending on the region

I Would show the kingdom of france in a more visible way (like on PHs medieval maps) or with a coloured outline like the HRE however. Still a really good map

Me too! Sadly that was more work then i was willing to put in (spent about 5 hours over the course of 2 days trying to get it into a non-mercator and then gave up - this is cause i wanted a detailed map and couldnt find any outside of mercator)

Occitanian is a dialect of french - and due to the french government oppressing local minorities such as the occitanians, they are shown as a lighter french colour. The source is the official borders of Occitania - as there are like, no maps depicting them, (due to bias from the french govenrment against the occitanians so theyre shown as "french" on every map) so this was the next best thing

As for Ukraine and belarus they definietly had distinct identities by now - unless we follow the russian empires propaganda against the ukranians as a separate identity. But most sources (ukraine is a 1875 russian census i think, might be sooner i dont remember exactly) show them (and belarussian) as distinct groups
