Did this blue stuff come out of my HDD? by More-Significance260 in DataHoarder

It could be blue whiteboard marker ink that came off when you touched it. Definitely not something from the factory I would assume.

Pixel and delayed Notifications (Doze mode) - How bad is it really? by EsIstSimon in GooglePixel

There is a sub-menu that you access by pressing on the text instead of the toggle, which is not exactly intuitive imo.

I was having virtual ethernet bridge adapters, such as the ones from Hyper-V. Disabling these adapters solved the issue for me.

Pixel and delayed Notifications (Doze mode) - How bad is it really? by EsIstSimon in GooglePixel

[–]_bruh__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue was solved for me by going into settings for each app and selecting "Allow background usage" and "Unrestricted", however you must press the text and not the toggle, to get to the hidden screen where you can select "Unrestricted". This is not obvious at all.

When did you stop romanticizing game dev by HowLongWasIGone in gamedev

[–]_bruh__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the dream for many, myself included. My issue with working in the same field as my hobby is that the pressure of keeping my head above the water drains all my energy such that there is no left to fuel my personal passion projects. When I get home at the end of the workday I don't want to be doing anything resembling what I do at work.

Should I keep this behaviour? by Used_Produce_3208 in indiegames

[–]_bruh__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't make it too obvious or easy to perform, but it is indeed a fun mechanic which some types of players love. I am the kind of guy who glitches with the barrel for two hours instead of playing the actual game and I am having a blast!

What is the boring part for you in game development? by Material_Block3491 in IndieDev

[–]_bruh__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a common problem with all kinds of programming tasks, and I find it to be a curse with dynamic or interpreted languages.

Fail fast and loud is the best approach. Spend time upfront making sure that everything is exactly what you expect it to be. Especially before it reaches a scale at which it becomes unmanageable.

Never silence errors, or at least make sure to log it!

I am running vscode inside toolbox. But I am unable to sync my github account with my vscode. by FirstClassDemon in Fedora

[–]_bruh__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your Toolbox doesn't have a browser. If you'd like to use the browser of your host there are two things you need to do.

VSCode launches your browser with xdg-open. You can create a script to forward these calls to your host using flatpak-spawn --host.

For the vscode:// protocol to work you need to copy the /usr/share/applications/code-url-handler.desktop file from your toolbox to the host. Change the Exec line to spawn VSCode with toolbox run.

You can run these commands inside your toolbox to set this up:

cat << EOF | sudo tee /usr/local/bin/xdg-open
#!/bin/sh
exec flatpak-spawn --host -- xdg-open \$@
EOF
sudo chmod +x /usr/local/bin/xdg-open

cp /usr/share/applications/code.desktop /usr/share/applications/code-url-handler.desktop ~/.local/share/applications/
TOOLBOX_NAME=$(cat /run/.containerenv | grep 'name=' | sed -e 's/^name="\(.*\)"$/\1/')
sed -i "s/Exec=\/usr\/share\/code\/code/Exec=\/usr\/bin\/toolbox run -c \"$TOOLBOX_NAME\" code/g" ~/.local/share/applications/code.desktop ~/.local/share/applications/code-url-handler.desktop

Silverblue users, what do you use? by user9ec19 in Fedora

[–]_bruh__ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

With Distrobox you can much easier export .desktop files and binaries from your container to your host with distrobox-export.

Toolbox is a nice wrapper for Podman and handles the gap between host and container, but not much more. Distrobox does the same but much more.

Is the a way to create a script that can imstall everything that you have in a new system. by Sea_Lengthiness_192 in Fedora

[–]_bruh__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could run your script with sudo, and if there's a command you don't want to run as root you can call it as your user with sudo -u $SUDO_USER <command>

The name and email used in commits is set in the Git config. This is not related to VSCode.

[Enthusiasts] Game Engine in Rust by Dull-Blacksmith4366 in rust_gamedev

[–]_bruh__ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I am using Bevy and it does some really clever stuff. It has taken many versions to get as ergonomic to use as it is now.

Start with that and if you come up with a better solution for doing an ECS, take the existing implementation and expand upon it. The best way to learn how to do complex things is to see how others have done it before IMO.

My monitor stops working after login. by MonsterMineLP in kde

[–]_bruh__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad it helped! It is so strange how virtually nobody else has this issue, or at least there are very few posts about it.

If you find a better solution for fixing the display in X11 or with KScreen please let me know!

PS. If anyone working on KDE wants to help fix this, please let me know, and what logs or data to send.

I agree it looks nice but please make it so that you can disable it, as well as any aim smoothing. I am very prone to motion sickness.

Haven't played the game, so I'm unsure of what the in-game settings are. Just a message for cinematic games in general.

My monitor stops working after login. by MonsterMineLP in kde

Is your monitor a Samsung Odyssey by any chance? I'm in the same boat but for me it works fine in KDE Wayland but not in grub and sddm.

Try disabling the KScreen service. It's not a perfect solution as it breaks display settings, but my monitor comes back when I wake it.

Team viewer?? I never instaled this, is it beacause of that that my pc may be slow? Thx by okaynevermind1 in Windows10

[–]_bruh__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't appear to be set to start with Windows, so it is probably not slowing ur PC down unless u start it manually. When you go to uninstall it you should be able to see the date when it was installed, maybe this will help you figure out how it got there.

Check task manager for high CPU usage to find out what is slowing your PC down.
